Evie entered the cold classroom, riding the high of talking to Ivan. Her cheeks were slightly pink, and her heartbeat was rapid.
Harry called out to her, "Evie!"
"Hello, Harry! " Evie walked up to him. "How was your weekend?"
"I got to go to Hogsmeade for the first time," Harry said enthusiastically.
"Did you like it?" he quickly nodded. "Oh! He is so cute," Evie thought to herself as she observed Harry's excitement. She was happy he finally got to go because he didn't have permission last year.
"Well, I'm glad you finally got to enjoy it. Could you tell Moine I will be a little late for our study? I've got to give my dad something."
Harry was about to say something but was interrupted by Snape, who called attention to the students. Evie turned to return to her seat, and Draco sat beside her. He stared ahead at the board, not acknowledging her existence.
Professor Snape said something about how the first week was just a practice and that for the rest of the semester, they were going to work on a project. The entire class groaned collectively at what Snape said. They were going to be making an antidote to a potion.
The partners were given a random potion to create and conjure the correlated antidote on test day. One of the partners would take the first potion that Snape assigned, and the two would have to make a plan for the other partner to create the antidote. So, the partners had to research and practice all the potions Snape wrote on the board.
Evie gulped, looking over at Draco. He didn't have the best reputation, but she had heard from Hermione that he was second in their class. If he was smart, he could be someone to trust, and he would want to get good marks. But then again, everyone said how evil the Slytherin boy was.
"Uhm," Evie hesitated, "since this project is so..." she couldn't think of a word for how challenging the project was. Would you like to work on it outside of class?"
Snape had recommended that the partners were to work on the project and build trust in one another. "okay, where?"
"how about that picnic table? Did you like the muffins?" she asked.
Draco said nothing but nodded. Evie was frustrated with the blonde boy, wishing she had Harry or anyone else as her partner. Evie asked what time would be suitable for Malfoy. He responded that tomorrow at six, he would not ask her what would be best for her schedule.
"Rude," Evie muttered and got up to walk with Harry. They walked to their classes in a calm silence. Harry appreciated that Evie didn't bring up the tribulations that surrounded Harry.
Evie spent the rest of the day excited about the introduction of the Triwizard champions. She went to the table to see if she could grab her food to bring outside for lunch. When she got to the Hufflepuff table, Ivan was already sitting next to her regular spot.
"Hi, Ivan. " She greeted him. I am going outside to get some vitamin D. Do you want to? " She took a breath to gain confidence. Come with me?"
Ivan nodded and stood up. He grabbed the plate with sandwiches, and Evie reached for the fruits. They walked out to the courtyard and sat down on a stone circle table. There were other students outside, giggling and relaxing in the sun.
Evie loved to watch the people around her. She always thought that people, in general, were adorable—their fits of laughter when they wrapped their arms around each other and their eyes lit up when they saw someone they loved. She adored just watching the interaction, forever fascinated by people.
