Kushida has been acting strangely recently. She's been making more of an effort to talk to me, before class, during lunch, and when school ends. Whenever I'm alone, she always mysteriously seems to be around. There was also her odd behavior back at the vending machine, the way she acted was unusual, asking me if we could've been a couple. I'm not sure what she's playing at, but I should be cautious around her, given her past history. It also seems like I'm not the only one who's noticed her strange behavior. My arm is currently enveloped in warmth. The culprit is my now girlfriend, Karuizawa Kei.
"What's going on between you and Kushida?" Kei asks, her voice tinged with suspicion.
"What do you mean?" I reply, keeping my tone even.
Kei frowns, clearly frustrated. "She's been talking to you a lot lately. And it always seems to happen when I'm not around."
"Maybe she's just feeling lonely. After everything that happened, Kushida doesn't have many friends left," I say.
Kei's frown deepens. "I don't like it. She's a terrible person. If she wasn't so rotten, maybe she'd have some friends."
It's true that once our class discovered her real personality, any friendships she had were shattered. But that might be for the best. Any new relationships she forms now would be based on genuine connections.
We reached the school and headed to our classroom. After settling in, I notice Kushida making her way towards me, a bright smile on her face.
"Good morning, Ayanokoji," she says cheerfully.
Kei shoots a subtle glare in her direction but remains silent. "Good morning, Kushida," I reply, nodding slightly.
Kushida lingers for a moment, her smile eerily wide, before finally walking away to her seat. Kei's eyes follow her, she's clearly frustrated and suspicious.
Chabashira-sensei entered with her usual stern expression, signaling the start of the day. Class passed normally without anything out of the ordinary. Kei had already informed me that she was going to be eating lunch with Maya Sato, which meant I had some time to myself.
As Kei and Sato left, I noticed Kushida making her way towards me.
"Hey, Ayanokoji, can I talk to you for a moment?" she asked, her tone casual yet deliberate.
I looked up, curious about her intentions. It was clear she had waited until Kei left.
"What's up?" I replied.
"Not here," she said, glancing around the room. "Can you meet me on the rooftop after school?"
The rooftop. When a girl asks you to meet her there, it carries a certain connotation. I felt slightly hesitant.
"I'm not sure. I'm kinda busy after school."
Kushida clasped her hands together, her expression pleading. "Please? It will be super quick and it's important."
Reluctantly, I nodded. "Alright."
"Good," she said, her smile returning as she walked out to the hallway, presumably to eat lunch.
Horikita who had been observing our interaction this whole time, approached me, her eyes sharp with curiosity.
"What was that about?" Horikita asked, her voice low but firm.
"Not sure yet. She asked me to meet her on the rooftop after school," I replied, keeping my tone neutral.
Horikita frowned. "That's unusual. Be careful. Kushida isn't someone who acts without reason."
