Aliya

I walk out of my room, my phone in one hand and the contract paper in the other. I have come to realize my fear is motivated by laziness because I was scared of the contract, I didn't read the whole thing and stopped at the first page where all the rules lay, it has been with me for months now. Two months actually!

Adam hasn't spoken to me since the night he dropped me by the front door, two days later I find out he left the country. He sent me a letter with the words,

'Call this number when there is an emergency, I will be back soon'
typed on it.

Like really bro? But at the same time I like how he is treating me, it makes it easier to not get attached.

I stepped into the library, the soft rug slipping through my toes. The floor in the library were fully covered with coffee brown rug except around the coffee bar, it is bare floor. A few mugs, different coffee flavors and teabags alongside an expresso machine, were arranged beautifully on a floating counter.

I came in with the intention of going through the Contract but that flew out of the window when my eyes landed on the bookshelves, and my nostrils hit the smell of books, every thought of my lousy reality disappeared. I took the copy of little women, I started reading it yesterday.

I settled on the light brown Sofa, next to the window overseeing the streets. Great view really.

Most of the books are an absolutely taste, and so not Adam like. There's Emma, a little princess, a midsummer night's dream, the handmaid's Tale and lots more, I am yet to discover. It can't be his collection!

The good ones were all arranged at the back and the front had the boring stuff. All in original copies reminding me of the man again.

Could it be his old girlfriend or wife's collection? I know nothing about the man except the family I met last week. Like the usual I pushed the thoughts aside telling myself is just the beginning and I will get to know more later.

I was deep into the novel when I heard something drop outside the door, I kept the book on the Sofa and walked out.

Catalia squatted on the floor put clothes into a basket she held. I look closely at the clothes and they were plain casuals in black, grey or mustard. Is he back?

"Salaam, good morning Catalia" I am still flabbergasted with the fact that Catalia is Muslim. I mean she is well covered, I think it's the name.

"Wa'alaikumsalaam, good morning Aliya" she stood up her lips stretching into a smile.

"Didn't know you were already around!" I stated, "I have been in since 6 actually, your breakfast had been in the dining"

"Thank you, is he back?" And just like everytime something in relation to him comes up my heartbeat dropped.

"Yes, you must be sleeping when he did" I nodded, "Is he- around?" I couldn't bring myself to say home because it really isn't home, maybe to him since he basically owns it and for me, well that is a different case.

"No he left, after waiting in the dining room, I thought he must have been waiting for you but something came up" oh I wish!

"Yeah probably" I said slowly. I smiled and turned to go back to my reading session when a thought popped into my head.

"Er Catalia, how long have you known Adam?" I asked, she smiled and said, "since before he was born, I was Mr Ales's home caretaker," my eyes widned.

"Wow you have to share your skin care routine with me, I thought you'd be like 39 or 40" I gushed, she blushed rolling her eyes, "Oh darling, such a tease"
