The noise of a ringing phone woke Karina up in the middle of the night. Eyes still closed, she tried to reach out to her phone by the bedside table. She answered the phone without looking at the caller's ID  "Hello?" she groggily said

She heard someone sobbing at the other end "H-hello Karina" the person hiccuped

Karina shot her eyes wide hearing the voice "Minjeong? What's wrong?"

Karina felt someone shift beside her on the bed. It was her husband who seemed to have woken up by the noise "Honey, who is that?" he asked

She heard crying on the phone getting louder and louder "I have to take this call. Go back to sleep" Karina said before she got up and made her way to the balcony and locked the glass door behind her

"Hey hey, Minjeong, what's wrong? Why are you crying?" she became worried about why would Minjeong call her in the middle of the night crying

"Karina I can't take it anymore... I- I can't go on another day seeing you w-with him! Please Karina..." Karina felt a teardrop from the corner of her eyes

She knows how hard it is for Minjeong her girlfriend who she loves the most watch her get married to a guy who her father chose for her for the sake of business. She didn't want it. She didn't want to hurt Minjeong like this. She hates hurting her, it's like every time Minjeong cries it's like a piece of her heart shatters. She had no choice. Knowing her father and what he's capable of, she had to obey him to protect Winter

"Baby...please don't cry hmm?" she tried to soothe Minjeong

On the other end of the line, Minjeong was sitting on the floor, her back against the wall in her apartment. No lights were on, making it so dark that she couldn't see anything other than her phone. She was holding a bottle of sleeping pills. She was depressed and skinny due to not eating, and dark bags under her eyes.

"N-never mind what I said... don't mind me haha" She faked a laugh she regretted calling Karina, but she couldn't help it. She wanted to hear her voice even for the last time. She still remembers every beautiful memory she has created with Karina.

"What do you mean by that Minjeong?"

Those memories flash right before her eyes in a span of seconds making her more emotional than ever. She knew that whatever they were before, it will never gonna be the same. Especially now that Karina is a month pregnant with her husband.

"Karina I just called to say that I love you so much. Promise me that you'll take care of yourself and your baby hmm."

"Minjeong what are you saying? You're scaring me, don't do anything  please"

"I... I'm tired Karina, I want to sleep now" Minjeong said in a soft and calm tone "I love you"

"I love you the most Minjeong. I'll come to visit you tomorrow okay? Goodnight  baby" Karina waited for a while then she heard the call ended

Minjeong ended the call, leaving Karina worried. She knew that something was wrong but felt helpless to do anything about it. While she wanted to head to winter immediately, leaving in the middle of the night would anger her husband, who might tell her dad. Knowing her dad wouldn't approve and might even harm Minjeong, Karina was torn about what to do.

She falls to the ground, her tears forming. She cried so much hoping that Minjeong would be okay.

She eagerly waits till the morning and waits for her husband to go off to work before going to Minjeong. After her husband left she immediately drove toward Minjeongs apartment

She knocked waiting for her to open the door, but moments passed there was no Minjeong. She rummages through her bag for the spare key she has and opens the door herself.

Deep inside she was terrified to open the door, to see something she would never want to see.

She broke down with the sight In front of her. Minjeong was lying on the floor phone and the bottle of sleeping pills in hand. "No no please no" Karina shivered as she approached Minjeong

"Minjeong! Baby! No!" She cradles Minjeong in her arms slightly tapping her cheeks but she's not waking up. She sobs as she reaches out for her phone calling an ambulance

"Please don't leave me..." she caressed Minjeong's cheeks, her tears dropping on the latter's face "I love you Minjeong"

In the hospital, they announced that Minjeong died due to an overdose of sleeping pills. It broke Karina to see her lover's lifeless body, she was devastated.

In the first week after Minjeong died, she couldn't even eat or sleep. She keeps remembering how Minjeong was as a lover, she was very sweet and caring. Every time Karina was sad the latter would always surprise her with her favorite flavored ice cream. When Karina said that she wanted a dinosaur plushie as a joke, the next day Minjeong bought her an almost life-sized dino stuffed toy.

Then she remembers what Minjeong said to her on their last phone call "Take care of yourself and your baby" It echoed through her head

She looked at herself in the mirror "This isn't right" Minjeong wouldn't want this.

Since then she tried everything to keep herself going and took care of herself more.

The doorbell rings. She wondered who it was. She opened the door and saw a man wearing a blue uniform "Karina Yu?" the man asked

"Yes?"

"There's a mail for you, would you mind signing this?" the man pointed at the form. She saw on the form that it was a scheduled mail. After signing the man handed her a white envelope

She closed the door and took a seat on the sofa opening the envelope "My dearest, Karina" was written at the top of the letter
Unfolding the rest of the letter. She recognized it as Minjeong's handwriting

" The tender ache of our love is what I cherished the most, every delicate touch you emit feels like drowning in the depths of the clouds, It sends me through a high I could never get out. To us it was right, but they think otherwise. Bound by death is something I accepted for the longest of time, you have no fault it was inevitable. At the right time, the soul of mine would linger as you envelop it with love and the allure of what cannot be. My heart belonged to you, but then again, you weren't mine to keep. I'll look after you. I love you most"

The tears started falling as she quickly wiped them. She chuckled "Minjeong, you and your poems" She smiled staring at the letter "I miss you so much"

Eight months passed Karina was in the delivery room with her husband as she was about to give birth to a baby girl. After fifteen hours of labor, the baby came out perfectly healthy. Her husband was considerate enough to let Karina name their baby Minjeong. He understood how much Karina had loved the girl and respected it

Karina held her baby and almost immediately she felt the presence of Minjeong and it brought a smile to her face
