heeseung rushes as fast as he can to the building he works in, and arrives panting with disheveled hair. fuck. what was the need to even fix his hair before running.. 

he looks at the glass wall of someone's office, using it as a mirror, heeseung fixes his hair and tie.

he's looking professional. not like someone who just drank his way to sleep. the person in the office was giving heeseung a confused look. 

gosh, heeseung seemed like a complete weirdo staring into someone's office when all the poor guy was trying to do was fix his hair. he finally notices the weirded out looks and bows hastily not without fixing his hair once more. 

heeseung tries walking casually over to the coffee making station. 

"mr. lee," a voice calls out, startling heeseung so bad he was about to drop his coffee all over his hands. he turns around to see park sunghoon. 

park sunghoon is also a police detective like heeseung, he became one around the same time as heeseung too. 

but heeseung is always messing up, while on the other hand, sunghoon's always doing great no matter what. 

but sunghoon doesn't have an ego for that, in fact he's quite humble, which is the only reason heeseung tolerates sunghoon without ripping his handsome smile out. 

"you're late, you didn't attend the meeting.. there's a robbery going around, it's the same person. they're about the same level as your thief, you know?" sunghoon tries explaining to heeseung who's walking and listening at the same time. 

"what does that have to do with me?" heeseung mutters. 

sunghoon lets out a sigh. 

"i'm letting you know since you weren't at the meeting. if only we had someone like jake around here.. if anyone can outsmart that guy, it's jake, he's the only criminal on a higher rank." the younger says gently which only irks heeseung. 

"we don't need a brat like jake around here. look, i'm sure someone will find him and get that guy in jail soon enough." heeseung says with a small gesture with his hands. 

"oh, and heeseung. there's going to be shit ton of diamonds at that masquerade party, only snobby and rich people are attending it but you're also assigned to attend it. there's most likely going to be an attempt at robbery there, and someone needs to be able to make sure it's all in control." the latter murmurs casually rubbing his neck looking around. 

heeseung stops in his tracks looking at sunghoon. 

"and now you decide to tell me that?" he huffs and continues walking, a bit more like stomping. "it's going to start at 6! remember that!" sunghoon calls out before going to his own office.

heeseung watches sunoo flirt with humble sunghoon with a narrow gaze. 

sunoo is a popular worker who helps out with dna and evidence, although he seems to fool around with other workers a lot. 

sunoo may be one of the prettiest boys around but heeseung wont let that excuse his flirting with poor humble sunghoon. heeseung switches his gaze on sunoo to sunghoon. 

yuck, sunghoon is flirting back with a type of smile heeseung hasnt seen before. 

the older huffs before standing up with a dramatic flair as he stomps over to them. 

"you guys are supposed to be working, not fooling around like some lovesick highschoolers. and sunoo, please go back to your workplace, this isnt a playground." heeseung says sternly and glares at both of them. 

sunoo scoffs and rolls his eyes as heeseung walks back to his desk with a satisfied face. 

"hes always such a moody jerk." sunoo murmurs annoyed. "well, i mean, he probably has a reason, you know? theres never someone whos a complete jerk. which of course heeseung isnt a jerk!" sunghoon adds the last part quickly, hed never admit he finds heeseung to be just a little rude at times, but he also believes heeseung has good days and bad days. 

"yeah, the reason is hes single as hell." sunoo murmurs and sighs. he cups sunghoons cheek and caresses it. "i'll see you later, yeah?" 

if heeseung was being completely honest being single may just be the reason he's so much of a 'jerk.' heeseung huffs and takes out his phone and spins his chair around to cover it. 

he opens a dating app and straightens his posture as he scrolls through. 

no.. 

ew.. 

no.. 

oh thats disgustng.. 

heeseung groans and puts the phone down. it's almost like there was nobody at all for heeseung. but whatever, dating isn't supposed to be his priority right now. 

his only priority is to find jake sim, put him behind bars, get promoted. maybe everyone would be all over heeseung once he's known as the guy who captured the most impossible criminal. heeseung once again opens his phone and marks the date for the masquerade party. 

jake will surely be there. and heeseung will be there too.
