"The break is almost over," I sighed.

With school starting up soon again, this was a much-needed break from the stress caused by school.

Whether it be the students, teachers, assignments, or special exams. Taking one quick look at the people around me, you could tell how much weight was lifted off their shoulders by this time off.

Not having to worry about anything. Being completely free to do whatever they wanted.

It was an amazing feeling.

But, this break was nearly over. Tomorrow, those worries would pile onto us again as we transitioned back into the struggles of a high-school student.

It was time to focus. That first half of the year gave me a great perspective on the inner workings of this school.

Now, I can diligently attack this next half of the year.

I tapped my spoon on the rim of my coffee cup in front of me.

I sat inside a nice and quiet cafe, having breakfast. Instead of spending my last day off balled up in my room.

Taking the opportunity to breathe in my last few breaths of freedom before school started up again.

As I sat at my table, enjoying my free time to think and eat breakfast, a quiet and familiar face sat in the empty seat across from me.

"Hello, Fukumoto-kun," Hiyori greeted me as she took her seat.

"Hi, Hiyori," I replied.

"Do you mind if I take this seat?"

"Doesn't bother me at all."

I know we are the same age, but compared to our peers, Hiyori's manners and politeness far exceed her years.

"It's been a while since we last spoke," Hiyori started.

"I'm sorry I haven't reached out. With all the exams and class conflicts happening before the break it seemed like my plate was quite full."

"No, no, don't apologize about that. I can only imagine what it's like being a class leader right now."

Hiyori quickly turned to her bag and rummaged around in it briefly before placing three books on the table.

Station Eleven.

We Were Liars.

The Book of Strange New Things.

"These are all new books to me, but I thought you'd find them interesting. They all have unique storytelling and plots that keep you hooked," Hiyori offered a bright smile as she told me her opinion.

"Your recommendations are never wrong so I can't wait to read them."

"I'll tell you when I return them to the library so you can pick them up right away," Hiyori said as she carefully placed the books back in her bag.

"How was your winter vacation, Hiyori?" I asked.

"I enjoyed it. I spent most of my time reading or doing crafts. I went out a few times and met up with some friends, like Ayanokouji-kun. It was a nice time to unwind from the stress of school."

"Ayanokouji, huh? Didn't know you were acquainted with him."

"It was around the same time during the paper shuffle exam that I met him."

"Ah, I see..."

"What about you? How was your break, Fukumoto-kun?"

"Pretty hectic I can't lie. Doesn't seem like I even had a break. But I did get to hang out with quite a few classmates and friends which is always nice. But I'm itching to get back to school and start helping my class more."
