Everything was okay, more than okay actually. You had some awesome friends. Xingqiu, Chongyun, and Yunjin always made you laugh and happy. Xiangling made you amazing food when you were sad. Bonus, you had Hu Tao as your girlfriend, you still weren't entirely sure how that happened but you weren't complaining.
All this reason to be 100 percent okay...so why weren't you?
Why were you so tired all the time? Why was there that feeling deep down in your gut that you didn't fit in? That you didn't belong here or anywhere? And why the hell couldn't you remember what happened before except in fuzzy memories.
Sadly there was half an answer to your inner turmoils.
   The nightmares.
One day they just started and you've been having them ever since. Most people would say "Oh dreams can't hurt you". Lies. These nightmares were painful. You would wake and still feel the same pain.
Were you desperate to know why you were having these dreams? Absolutely. Luckily you didn't have to wait too long.
The answer came on the day of your birthday.
Since the nightmares have begun, you've tried to sleep less, opting to stay awake all night if you could. So you were still awake when Hu Tao awoke early. She was acting even more...bouncy than normal.
   "What's up with you?"
Instead of answering you she practically sprinted out of the room, leaving you blinking in confusion. Eh, Hu Tao was weird, it wasn't entirely out of the norm. Soon she came back into the room holding a cupcake with a lit candle sticking out of it. You immediately knew what was going on.
"Happy birthday Y/n~" She said in a sing-songy voice.
"Please don't sing me happy birthday." You groaned. Knowing her she'd sing it loud enough to wake the neighbors.
She faked a pout. "You're no fun. At least make a wish." The cupcake was held out to you.
After a few moments of hesitation you took it. Food was food after all, and knowing Hu Tao, Xiangling probably made it. The icing of the cupcake reminded you of Hu Tao's eyes, you wondered if that was done on purpose. You blew the candle out and made a wish, it wasn't too hard after all.
Hu Tao placed a loud kiss, complete with Mwa, on your lips.
"Eat your cupcake, I told Xiangling to make it with my love and maybe a spirit or two." She winked at you. "I have to go but i'll see you later."
"Where are you going?" You asked her.
"I'm helping plan my love's birthday of course!" She booped your nose. "I love you!"
You called out "I love you too", as she left. Left now alone with nothing but a cupcake and your thoughts. Silently you eat your cupcake already missing the presence of your girlfriend.
Your sleepless nights were having an effect on you, you were so tired. Trying your hardest to stay awake. Eventually the fatigue takes over and you fell asleep.

Why did your head hurt so much? Did you hit it on something? Should you check? Your head rested in your hands, the pounding getting worse. A groan left your lips. Wait...why were your hands wet? You pulled them away to see a deep red coating your hands. What? Your eyes widened in horror, your head was bleeding!

A scream tried to rip its way painfully out of you, but all that came up was more blood. It splattered in crimson dots on the red floor. Red? Your floor wasn't red. You looked down to see a dark liquid, one eerily resembling the one on your hands, coating the floor. Your feet soaked in the blood. Panic filled you. Where was all this blood coming from? Was it you, the blood from your head wasn't that bad.
Looking around for the source of the liquid, the sharp scent of metallic hit your nose just as your foot stepped on something. Your body recoiled in disgust. Glancing down you saw a pale figure covered in the same red. Not just a pale figure, a body.
   Your body.
It's pale lifeless eyes bored into your soul. Your lungs felt like they were closing as you struggled to scream and breathe at the same time. How was this possible?
A creak reached your ears and you turned your head, just in time for the blade to come down.

A scream woke you up, your own you realized bolting up in bed. As you struggled to breathe tears pricked your eyes. What did the dream mean? Were you actually dead? Was this some after life or second chance at life since yours was cut so short. What the fuck?!
Maybe it wasn't true? Yet deep down you knew it was true. The reason you felt so empty, like you didn't belong, It was because you didn't. How could you not have seen it sooner, the signs were almost blindingly obvious now. This was why you couldn't remember anything from before the time you started dating Hu Tao.
   Speaking of Hu Tao...
"Hello? Where are you, everyone's waiting for you!" The said girl walked into the room and crushed you in a hug. "Your surprise is ready are you- wait, what's wrong?"
Should you keep this from her..no you shouldn't that's not fair to either of you.
"I'm dead." You said, bluntly not knowing how to sugar coat it.
A pause. "You silly! You have to go to the party, you can't just pretend to have passed away! Though I might have a coffin for you~"
You looked into her eyes, willing her to take this seriously.
"I mean it Hu Tao." You then explained your dreams, your feelings, and not present memories.
Hu Tao was silent for a moment, but then hugged you tighter.
"I will love you no matter what. So what if you died, you're alive now aren't you? We should be thanking whatever Archons that brought you to me." Hu Tao pulled away and booped your nose.
"Besides, I've always believed in ghosts."
   That earned her a smile.
