Between the Lines

chapter 2

Me and Tony walked to class together, he was real quiet. He had lots going on for him but he was a really smart kid. I glanced at him as we walked. He kept a stern and mean look on his face.

We made it to our first period and sat down in the back row. He lifted his feet onto the desk and closed his eyes as the teacher began giving us a speech. The JDs, or greasers, glanced at us occasionally. A few of the girls shot me some mean looks and I just rolled my eyes.

After what felt like forever it was finally our free period, basically our lunch. Me and Tony walked to our spot only to see Vic with some new girl. Cheryl had always liked Vic. I thought it was kind of sweet. I was hoping she didn't see this though. The girl looked at me as i approached.

Girl: Vic, who's that chick?

Vic: Oh her... shes just one of my buds.

Me and Tony finally got to the spot, Vic cocked his head, basically dismissing the girl before turning around. She walked off and he leaned against the wall.

I sat down as the rest of the gang finally showed up. It was a Friday night. I don't know who's "great" idea it was to start school in the middle of the week it was but it was fine with me.

Tina looked awful happy. I wonder what was going on with her. As she skipped up I glanced at Tony, who seemed unamused.

Tina: You guys won't believe it!

Tony silently rolled his eyes. I know Tony trys hard to be mysterious, but deep down, he just wants people to know him.

Vic and bobbie basically shot up whenever they heard Tina talk in such an enthusiastic tone.

Vic: What is it?

Bobbie nodded his head, eager to know what was going on. Tina smirked as she saw how badly they wanted to know.

Tina: I got a date with a hornet!

She said with a smirk on her face. A "hornet" was basically a greaseball from another school, but the different is they were more liked and well-known.

Cheryl scoffed and rolled her eyes.

Cheryl: What are y'all gonna do? Neck in the back of his car all night?

Tina: Oh, real funny Cher. But actually he's taking me to a drive in.

Tony looked intrigued. I wondered why.

Tony: What movie?

He said, I haven't really heard him talk at all today. I wonder what went on this summer. Tina looked at him with a smirk.

Tina: Flashdance.

Bobbie and Vic looked really interested all the sudden. They looked at eachother.

Bobbie: Hey guys, why don't we all go? Sounds like a good movie huh?

He looked at Vic with a sly smirk on his face. Tony and Cheryl nodded so I thought i might as well. Cheryl had this mean look on her face.

Cheryl: If your date dumps you Tina just so you know we're there.
