concert venue, milwaukee. 9:23pm.

steven and maeve managed to sneak inside the venue. the two sat near the stage, where everyone was too preoccupied with todd rundgren's equipment to notice two random bystanders. steven took out a flask and offered it to maeve. they passed it between each other like it was a blunt, each taking 3 sips.

after emptying the flask, the concert suddenly turned brighter and more upbeat. maeve was dancing around carelessly. she had a natural radar for rhythm, her body moving effortlessly well with any music. she loved dancing as much as she loved music. her moves caught people's attention, causing a lot of boys to stare at her in awe. that didn't go unnoticed, steven was prepared to jump at anyone coming near her. he watched her as well, a smile threatening to appear on his face as she jumped around. she looked so vibrant, almost as if every song was made for her only. steven was used to her antics because she would always play records in forman's basement and pretend to have a concert. but it was something about seeing her in those flashing lights that changed the scenery. maeve made the world seem like her stage, and steven - well, let's say he enjoyed the show.

school. 8:33 am.

maeve was smoking a cigarette at the school gate. she had a slight headache from last night's adventure, but it was sort of like a pleasant reminder of her partner in crime. maeve grew fond of steven hyde very quickly after the two met. they shared a lot of interests and also the pleasure of messing with people, which made them usually end up in trouble - but at least they were always together. whenever maeve seeked revenge to put school bullies in their place, hyde was there to help. whenever hyde wanted to make a political statement, maeve was there to help. and most importantly, whenever anyone in their group had problems with someone, they would take the matter into their own hands and make justice for their friends.

steven looked out the window of his classroom, getting bored by whatever was going on. he spotted maeve and grabbed his pencil quickly. he sort of hated seeing her smoke, it made his heart feel heavy and odd. he scribbled something on a piece of paper before facing the window again. he then aimed and quickly threw the pencil towards her, causing it to hit her head. maeve groaned instantly, surprised, as the pencil fell next to her feet. she looked in steven's direction and was met with his stupid victorious smile. he raised the paper against the window. it read 'quit smoking idiot'.

she flipped him off before killing her cig and walking into the school. she made her way to her locker in the tense silence of the hallways. there were 10 minutes left of class and soon, the place will be swarming with kids. when she got to her destination, her face dropped. across her locker, written with red marker, was the word 'SLUT'. she sighed. it wasn't the first time she had her locker vandalized, but it never got any easier to face it. she knew there was no chance of cleaning it before people started getting out, so she just grabbed her books. as the bell rang, everyone passing by stole glances of the scene, laughing. the sound of heels clacking against the floor caught maeve's attention. it had to be pam macy and her clique - they usually picked on her. the familiar laugh made maeve turn. 'should have written it on your forehead', pam's high pitched voice echoed through the hallway, making laughter errupt everywhere. maeve scoffed, she knew better than to pick a fight, although she wanted to. plus, by pam's side was jackie, so maeve assumed that things won't escalate as long as she's there. pam didn't like her unresponsiveness, so she insisted 'what? is your throat sore?', she asked mockingly, hinting at... well, you-know-what. her words only made maeve grow angrier. she was on the verge of rage quitting, but she remained silent. it was only when pam came closer and poured her coffee all over her that she finally snapped. she pushed pam further from her, 'fuck off, the only one with a sore throat is your mother'. pam's expression hardened and it was full of disgust. she quickly raised her hand and slapped maeve, making people gather around them, 'you cunt, do not touch me!', she shouted. maeve was speechless. she felt so ashamed and angry that her whole world went black for a second. she threw her fist at pam's face, but one of her male friends stepped in front of her. he was massive, probably played rugby with that figure. he shoved maeve into the locker. pam stepped forward and while maeve was still dazed from hitting her head against the cold metal, she punched her right in the face. maeve collapsed against the locker for a moment, the warmth of her blood slowly smearing all over her mouth. all she heard was the principal's harsh voice 'the two of you, in my office, now!'
