Chapter 3

As we left the classroom and headed toward the sports ground, my mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. The name "Dev" echoed in my head, but I wasn’t sure if it was really his name or just a coincidence. I tried to shake off the confusion, but it lingered like a stubborn shadow.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I barely noticed Aanya walking beside me. Suddenly, she grabbed my arm and pulled me to a stop. "Harshna, are you okay? You’ve been acting so weird lately."

I hesitated, my heart pounding. This was it. I had to tell her. "Aanya, there's something I need to tell you," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

She looked at me with concern. "What is it? You know you can tell me anything."

I took a deep breath, gathering my courage. "There's this guy... I think his name is Dev. I’ve been noticing him for a while now. His classroom is right opposite ours. Today, I heard someone call out ‘Dev’ and saw him, but I’m not sure if it's actually his name or someone else’s."

Aanya’s eyes widened in surprise. "You’ve had a crush on him all this time and didn’t tell me? Harshna! How could you keep this a secret?"

"I didn’t know how to bring it up," I admitted, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"Okay, okay, calm down," she said, her tone becoming more serious. "Describe him to me. I need details."

"Well," I began, trying to think of the best way to describe him. "He's our senior, He's in the Blue House. His classroom is directly opposite ours. And he has this... presence. Like, you just can’t miss him."

Aanya nodded thoughtfully. "That’s not enough. There are a lot of seniors in Blue House. You need to point him out to me next time he passes by."

I nodded, feeling a mix of relief and nervousness. "Okay, I’ll do that. Next time I see him, I’ll show you."

"Good," Aanya said, giving me a reassuring smile. "We’ll figure this out together."

We continued walking toward the sports ground, and I felt a bit lighter having finally shared my secret. The anticipation of pointing him out to Aanya made me both excited and anxious. But for now, I was glad to have her support.

The sports period ended, and we were heading back to class. My mind was still racing with thoughts of Dev, and I couldn't shake off the nervous energy. As we walked through the hallway, passing by the library, I was lost in my thoughts when suddenly, he stepped out, almost bumping into me.

My heart skipped a beat. Oh my God, it's him!

I instinctively grabbed Aanya's hand, giving her a silent clue. See, he’s the one.

Aanya’s eyes followed my gaze, and she immediately understood. We continued walking, but my mind was spinning. I couldn’t believe he was right there, so close.

We got back to our classroom, and as soon as we sat down, Aanya turned to me, her eyes wide with excitement. "Harshna, bro, yes, his name is dev and he's on my bus! We’re kinda friends. If you want, I could tell him about you."

My heart pounded even harder. The thought of him knowing about me was both thrilling and terrifying. "I don't know, Aanya. I’m so nervous. What if he doesn’t feel the same? What if he tells others?"

Aanya placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "Don’t worry. I can be subtle. I’ll just mention you in passing. He won’t even know it’s deliberate."

I bit my lip, considering her offer. The idea of Dev knowing about me was too tempting to pass up, but the fear of embarrassment held me back. Finally, I nodded. "Okay, but please make sure he won’t tell anyone. I don’t want this to spread."

"Of course," Aanya said, smiling warmly. "I’ll handle it. You just trust me."

I nodded again, feeling a strange mix of excitement and anxiety. This was a big step, and I wasn’t sure what would happen next. But having Aanya by my side made me feel a little braver.

Maybe, just maybe, this will lead to something more.

The last bell rang, echoing through the hallways, signaling the end of the school day. My heart was a mix of nerves and excitement as Aanya and I headed toward the bus. The weight of what I had agreed to earlier lingered in my mind, making each step feel both thrilling and daunting.

As we neared the bus, I couldn’t hold back my worries any longer. "Aanya, are you sure everything will be alright? There won’t be any problems, right?"

Aanya gave me a reassuring smile. "Don’t worry, Harshna. I promise I’ll be careful. He won’t even know it’s intentional."

I nodded, trying to believe her, but my mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. What will she tell him about me? What will he reply? Does he even know who I am? The questions buzzed around my head, each one adding to my mix of anxiety and anticipation.

We reached the bus, and I found myself feeling a bit excited despite my nerves. Something’s going to change. I can feel it.

As we boarded, Aanya gave my hand a squeeze. "Trust me, okay? I’ll let you know how it goes."

I smiled back, grateful for her support. "Okay, I trust you."

I found a seat by the window and stared out, my mind still racing. This small step felt monumental, like a shift in the tide of my otherwise predictable days. The prospect of Dev knowing about me, even just a little, sent a shiver of excitement through me.

As the bus pulled away from the school, I let myself imagine what might come next. Maybe Aanya’s conversation would be the beginning of something new. Maybe Dev would start to notice me. And maybe, just maybe, this would be the start of a story I had only dared to dream about.
