"Do you have to go?" Miku grabbed her mom's hand and gently tugged on it. Childish of her, yes, but it was a tactic that'd proven effective in the past. "It can't be too important, right? Plus, you're the vice-principal of the school! What are they gonna talk about in that faculty meeting that you don't already know?"
For once, Elle wasn't letting her daughter hang out at U.A. during her faculty meeting, and Miku was doing her best to change her mind. It was so boring at home! She'd much prefer going to the gym at the hero school and training there for a bit, but apparently Miku had to grab groceries instead. It was unfair.
"Gosh, you act so much like Aki sometimes, I almost wonder if you're her kid," Elle grumbled, though she really didn't look annoyed. "Especially with your black hair. And your entire personality. Only thing tipping me off that you're my daughter is your silver strands of hair in the front."
"Uh, and the fact that Dad is too disgustingly in love with you to ever consider cheating on you," Miku pointed out. "And stop changing the subject! You should stay here, with me. We never finished watching Heartstopper! We could do that now, and Dad can tell you all about whatever happens in the meeting."
"Correction: I never finished watching Heartstopper. You went ahead and watched it without me. And no, I have to attend the meeting. It's about Toshinori and whether or not he should become a teacher at U.A. next year."
Why would he want to teach at U.A.? Miku frowned. Uncle Tori is kinda scared of kids my age. Unless...
"Oh, he wants to find a successor for One For All there, doesn't he?" Miku asked. "He decided he didn't want it to be Inasa or Airi?"
The thought of a new One For All user had always scared Miku. As a child, her parents had wondered if she should be the successor, but quickly decided against it when they realized just how out of control her Quirk could get. If she managed to go insane from Windsweep while also holding the power of what was probably the most powerful Quirk in existence... well, it wouldn't be pretty. Now, she was being trained to 'assist the next Symbol of Peace,' just as Aki and Elle had done for their brother, All Might. She was supposed to be a behind-the-scenes kind of hero; ensuring that the One For All successor never failed and was always in the spotlight.
She didn't even mind it. Miku was well aware that some people in her position might be annoyed that they couldn't be the main hero, but she understood why. The public needed someone to look up to, someone to make them feel safe, and it was the easiest for someone with One For All to do so.
However, it was a bit difficult to assist someone who didn't even exist yet, as Toshinori hadn't even picked a new successor. That's what scared Miku. What if she didn't like who he chose? Even worse, what if they didn't like her? Of course, this was irrational, since he promised she'd get a say in who would inherit his power, but still. If she was supposed to stick by the side of someone for the rest of her life, it was only natural to worry about it.
Not to mention she didn't know how she was supposed to stay near his successor once she graduated, since the Hero Public Safety Commission... well, it was best not to think about that. It was still almost four years into the future, after all.
Honestly, Miku was hoping that he'd choose Togata Mirio, a second-year in U.A. and one of Elle and Shota's favourite students. He was a truly good guy with pure intentions, determination, and an extremely powerful Quirk. Not to mention he was funny and didn't mind sparring with Miku, despite their age difference. He reminded her a lot of All Might, which was a good thing.
Elle shook her head. "Inasa said he'd prefer to become a hero by only using his Quirk, and Airi still occasionally has second thoughts about being a hero. Makes sense, though. Who expects a thirteen-year-old to choose their future already?"
