"How you kissed me when I was in the middle of saying something."

"Come back here. Your asshole of a father is dying."
Her voice rang in my voice, for a minute I couldn't understand what she was saying.
Or why was she saying it to me?
Or how was that even possible?
How was my father dying, after torturing me for my life....how was he just dying? Just like that?
How fucking dare he die?
"Why the fuck would I come back?" My voice came as harsh as it could get, and I felt Delilah's hand wrap up in mine, a silent indicator for me to calm down.
"Trust me I don't want any of you to even come near him, but your lawyer had called me to let you know that you need to come here for some sort of formalities" She says strictly, not budged by my harsh voice at all.
"I....okay we are coming back immediately, I'll get my private jet" I hastily hung up the phone and began to pack my belongings. In a daze, I made a quick call to my assistant to inform them about the situation and my immediate needs. My mind was swirling, my thoughts running all over the place as I threw clothes into my suitcase.
Lost in the whirlwind of my own thoughts, I failed to notice that Delilah was still sitting motionless on the bed. Her demeanor had changed from relaxed to tense, but she remained frozen in place. It was only now that I realized that my hand was no longer in hers, and in the midst of the chaos surrounding us, it almost felt as if we were two strangers in a room together.
"Come and pack," My voice came out as more harsh than intended, my thoughts were all clogged up and seeing Delilah just sitting there unmoving did something to my heart.
"No" she just said a word. One fucking word. Which was refusal. Why would she refuse to dare? How dare she refuse?
My anger was bubbling faster and I felt my jaw clench as I looked down at her, my heart thumping in my chest as I saw the defiant look in her eyes.
"I said come and fucking pack." My words were as sharp as a knife as my eyes burned through her face.
"And I said no." The sound of her voice still contained that feisty and defiant tone that usually sent shivers down my spine. But in this moment, it was doing quite the opposite. Instead of the usual thrill, I felt as if her words were burning my skin, each syllable adding fuel to the anger and frustration that was already ignited within me.
"Delilah," Each step I took towards her felt like a punch to my heart, my hand wrapping around her arm as I hoisted her up against me. The feel of her body against me did something to my chest.
"Maxwell, I'm not fucking going back" The anger in her voice mirrored my own, and as her sharp green eyes locked onto mine, my heart thundered against my chest with a mix of emotions. I could feel my irritation growing stronger, the weight of our unspoken resentment hanging heavy in the air between us.
"I did not ask you. You need to come." I barked out, my tone so sharp I could barely believe it was me who was speaking like this, that to my beloved wife. I held her arm firmer, and my other hand reached out to wrap around her waist tightly.
As I held her close, her body tensed under my touch. Her eyes narrowed and her lips pursed in disapproval.
"Let go of me," she hissed. I clenched my jaw, resisting the urge to tighten my grip even more. The stubborn expression on her face only fueled my determination to protect her, even if she didn't want to listen to reason.
