The alarm went off at six in the morning, breaking the silence with its insistent beeping. I slowly opened my eyes, feeling the residual warmth of the sheets. I turned over to reach for Penelope, but her side of the bed was empty. The soft sound of water running in the shower reached my ears, bringing a smile to my face. I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity to surprise her.

I got up slowly, trying not to make any noise, and walked barefoot toward the bathroom. The door was slightly ajar, and the steam wafted out, mixing with the faint light of dawn filtering through the window. I carefully opened the door and stepped inside, feeling the enveloping warmth of the bathroom. Through the fogged-up glass, I could see Penelope's silhouette under the stream of water, her movements slow and relaxed.

—Pen? —I called out, entering the bathroom with a deliberately innocent tone.

—Colin, what are you doing? —Her voice sounded surprised but amused. —It's too early for your mischief.

—I thought you might need some help, —I said as I drew back the curtain slightly and poked my head in, grinning like a mischievous child.

Penelope raised an eyebrow, a mix of surprise and amusement on her face. —Help? I didn't know showering was a group activity.

—Don't underestimate my ability to make anything more fun, —I said, stepping in with a confident gesture.

She laughed, but her laughter turned into a soft gasp as I joined her under the hot water. —Colin, you're crazy, —she said, trying to sound stern, but the smile on her face told me otherwise.

—Crazy for you, maybe? —I moved closer and took her hand, bringing it to my lips to kiss gently.

Penelope tried to keep her composure but couldn't help laughing. —You really never stop being so... unpredictable, do you?

—Not at all. Besides, who could resist this opportunity? —I gave her a quick spin, gently pressing her against the shower wall. The water cascaded over us, creating a curtain of warmth that enveloped every inch of our skin.

—Colin Bridgerton, you're impossible! —she exclaimed, but her protest was cut short by a kiss I placed on her lips.

—Impossible, but irresistible, —I murmured against her mouth before kissing her again, deeper this time. I could feel her relax in my arms, letting herself be carried away by the moment.

Our laughter soon mingled with the sound of the water, every touch and kiss filling the space with a warmth that had nothing to do with the steam. We let ourselves be swept up in the current of emotions, our bodies and hearts intertwining in an intimate dance, each touch a reminder of what we had and how much we would miss each other.

—You have a very particular way of making showers more interesting, —Penelope said, her smile as bright as ever.

—Well, I have my hidden talents, —I replied with a cheeky grin.

The water ran over our bodies, and as I looked at her, everything seemed to freeze. The playful tension dissolved, replaced by a wave of deeper emotions. I lowered my head slowly, capturing her lips in a soft kiss, barely a brush that turned into something more intense as I felt her respond, pulling herself closer to me.

Our kisses grew more urgent, and my hands began to explore her body, tracing the curves I knew so well. I felt her hands glide over my back, drawing invisible paths with her fingers, sending shivers down my skin.

The hot water pounded against our bodies, creating a mist around us that made everything feel surreal, as if we were in our own world, detached from time and space. We moved together, our bodies meeting and merging in an intimate dance. Every touch, every kiss felt like a silent promise, an affirmation of what we were to each other.
