The warehouse was dimly lit, the air thick with anticipation and the lingering scent of engine oil. Donghyuck arrived just as Jeno and the others were finalizing the details of their next move. His mind was still reeling from the encounter with Mark, but he forced himself to focus. They couldn't afford any distractions now.
"Hyuck, you okay?" Jeno asked, noticing the strained look on his friend's face.
Donghyuck nodded, though he didn't feel okay at all. "Yeah, just... rough night. Let's get this done."
Jeno gave him a sympathetic look but didn't press further. They had a job to do, and everyone knew the stakes were higher than ever.
"Alright," Jeno began, addressing the group. "We have the money, but getting it to Jaebum without drawing too much attention is going to be tricky. We need to be careful."
Donghyuck nodded, stepping forward. "We'll split up. Jeno, you and a couple of guys will handle the handoff. I'll create a distraction to draw any heat away from you. We need to make sure Jaebum doesn't try anything funny."
The plan was set into motion with meticulous precision. They couldn't afford any mistakes. Donghyuck's mind was a whirl of strategies and contingencies as he prepared for his role in the plan. But despite his best efforts, he couldn't shake the image of Mark's hurt expression from his mind.
As night fell, Donghyuck and his crew moved into position. The rendezvous point was a secluded spot in an industrial district, chosen for its lack of surveillance and easy escape routes. Donghyuck's job was to create a distraction at a nearby construction site, drawing any potential police presence or rival gang attention away from the handoff.
He watched from a distance as Jeno and the others approached the meeting spot. Jaebum was already there, flanked by his men. The tension was palpable, a dangerous undercurrent that made Donghyuck's pulse quicken.
With a deep breath, Donghyuck set his plan into motion. He started a small fire at the construction site, ensuring it would draw attention but not cause too much damage. The flames flickered to life, and within minutes, the distant sound of sirens confirmed that the distraction was working.
Donghyuck moved swiftly, positioning himself where he could keep an eye on both the fire and the handoff. He saw Jeno hand over the money to Jaebum, who inspected the bag with a calculating eye. For a moment, it seemed like everything was going according to plan.
But then, Jaebum's expression darkened. He said something to Jeno, his voice too low for Donghyuck to hear. Donghyuck's heart raced as he saw Jaebum's men start to fan out, their movements tense and aggressive.
Something was wrong.
Donghyuck's instincts screamed at him to act. He abandoned his post and sprinted toward the meeting spot, his mind racing with fear and determination. He couldn't let anything happen to his friends, or to Mark.
Just as Donghyuck reached the scene, he saw Jaebum grab Jeno by the collar, his face twisted with anger. "You think this is enough? You're insulting me!"
Jeno struggled, trying to break free. "It's all we have! You said this would settle it!"
Jaebum laughed, a cruel sound that sent chills down Donghyuck's spine. "You really think I'd let you off that easy? No, I'm taking more than just money. I'm taking a message."
Before Donghyuck could react, Jaebum's men surged forward, weapons drawn. Chaos erupted as both sides clashed, the air filled with shouts and the sound of fists hitting flesh. Donghyuck fought his way through the fray, desperate to reach Jeno.
Amidst the confusion, Donghyuck caught sight of Jaebum retreating, a smug look on his face. He was pulling out a phone, his fingers dancing over the screen. Donghyuck's heart sank as he realized what was happening—Jaebum was calling in more reinforcements.
"No!" Donghyuck shouted, lunging toward Jaebum.
But it was too late. The reinforcements arrived with alarming speed, and the balance of power shifted dangerously. Donghyuck found himself overwhelmed, his body aching from blows he couldn't fend off.
In the midst of the chaos, Donghyuck's thoughts drifted to Mark. He had to survive this, had to protect Mark at all costs. With a surge of determination, he fought back with everything he had, rallying his crew to push back against the onslaught.
Finally, the police sirens grew louder, closing in on the scene. Jaebum's men began to scatter, unwilling to face the combined threat of Donghyuck's crew and the authorities. Donghyuck watched as Jaebum slipped away into the shadows, his parting words echoing in Donghyuck's ears.
"This isn't over, Hyuck. Not by a long shot."
As the police arrived and the situation began to stabilize, Donghyuck felt a mix of relief and dread. They had survived the night, but the danger was far from over. Jaebum's threat loomed large, and Donghyuck knew he couldn't rest until Mark was safe.
Later, as Donghyuck and his crew regrouped at the warehouse, Jeno approached him, a concerned look in his eyes. "Hyuck, we need to talk about Mark. We can't keep him in the dark anymore. It's too dangerous."
Donghyuck nodded, his resolve hardening. "You're right. I'll talk to him tomorrow. He deserves to know the truth."
As Donghyuck lay in bed that night, his mind raced with the events of the evening and the looming confrontation with Mark. He knew it wouldn't be easy, but he had to find a way to protect Mark, no matter what it took.
The path ahead was fraught with danger, but Donghyuck was determined to face it head-on. For Mark, for his crew, and for himself, he would find a way to overcome the darkness and keep those he cared about safe.
