“I can’t wait to see you guys.”
“Me too babe, me too.” I smiled at Julia whose face shone in happiness on my split laptop screen, “Give me a minute.”
Rising from the bed, I scampered to the closet and grabbed a new sundress which I almost forgot to pack. Quickly, I sauntered back into the bedroom and sinking into the bed, I folded the dress, placing it into the box.
“You know this is going to be the best vacation of our lives.” Maya grinned happily before sipping the wine she was holding. “I can’t believe you’re still packing right now. Are you sure y’all would be ready by tomorrow?”
“Girl, give her a break,” Julia said, moving away from the camera before appearing again.
Maya rolled her eyes, saying, “Of course you’re going to say that. I mean, look at you doing the same.”
“No, that’s not what this is,” Julia grinned, rolling her eyes too. “Our girl just got engaged, give her a break.”
Giggling, I flashed my ring at them. I was so happy. So much happy. Before I give the girls my attention again, let me give y’all a recap of my life after the horrible incident.
So, it had been some months, over a year, since the day I moved to New York. And even though I never pictured this to be the life I would be living a year later, seriously, it wouldn’t have been any better.
After the fiasco that took place last year with Tim— may he continue to rest in hell— Nicklaus recovered and moved us to a penthouse he bought in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
His protectiveness was on another level, he was always checking in on me to make sure I was safe. Even though it wasn’t as bad now since it was almost a year later, it was too much at first, and it caused us a couple of fights at some point.
But I loved this man so much, I loved that he cared. I understood why he was paranoid, so we communicated it and did loads of therapy. Breaking up wasn’t one of the options on the table. He made it known to me, but what he didn’t know was that I wasn’t going anywhere. So we worked it out and now, we were where I’d love to call ‘a very good and healthy place.’
Filming my story about meeting Tim, accepting the peace lily which I didn’t know had a spy camera hidden in it and being kidnapped, had taken my influencer job to a whole other level.
Not only did my story go viral with hundreds of millions of views, but it also had I and Nicklaus appearing on some popular shows. Even though it had my personal life all over the place, every part of our story was worth telling.
I also had to introduce Nicklaus to my online family, and it was safe to say that they loved him so much. Sometimes, it felt like they loved him more than they loved me.
He rarely made an appearance, but each time he did, the reaction my post got and the number of views and comments were enough to show me who my babies loved most. Nicklaus was our man now.
Sometimes, the thought of everything that happened still gave me goosebumps, but I had learned to not let it bother me.
Two days ago, on one of the days we were out on a private date, Nicklaus proposed to me in the most romantic way I could imagine. He had everything set, including a camera in case I wanted to share it. Of course, I did share it and it was currently the second most viewed video in all of my social media accounts.
“Look at you blushing,” it was Maya who brought me back to the present.
“Duh,” I chuckled. “I’m not the only one with an exciting life right now,” I said, waving Julia’s new book, which became a success.
