"Hello, this is detective Keating with Pointpherd police. May I speak with a Mrs. Haynes?"

"Can I ask what this is in reference to?"

"I really prefer to talk to Mrs. Haynes."

"Well Mrs. Haynes is in Jail, you'll have a better chance reaching her there." I move to hang up, but freeze once I hear what she says next.

"We have a Jane Doe here who is believed to be her daughter, we just need someone to come down and confirm."

My heart races in a mix of excitement, anxiety and a little relief.

".. hello?"

My eyes burn as I hold back tears, tears from what? I'm not entirely sure.

".. are you still there?"

I just knew I had to go see if it's her as soon as possible.

"Yes, yes. I'm here." I quickly reply. "I'm her son. Ivan Haynes. Alicia's brother."

"Do you have time to co—"

"Yes, I'm on my way now. Pointpherd hospital?"

The detective confirms and I fly out the door, grabbing my wallet and keys on the way out. There's a number of laws I broke, the speed limit, red lights, stop signs. But none of that was important. It felt my heart had a string tied around it, pulling me towards Alicia. I sloppily park in the first spot I see, not even fully registering the area.

My feet slam into the gravel as I run into the hospital, straight to reception.

Panting, struggling to catch my breath, I manage to utter out, "I was called by a detective about identifying a missing woman."

The nurse nods sympathetically, "hold on one moment and ill check for you."

"Ivan Haynes?" A voice asks. I turn around to meet a woman in slacks and a button down, the badge shinning on her waist line and the groggy memory of her voice tells me she's the detective I spoke to.

"Yes.. is my sister here?"

"The Jane Doe is resting now, she doesn't remember anything so we're counting on you to help identify her."

I nod, urgently looking towards the direction she pointed at. I follow her down the empty hall, through a couple of doors, till we get to a quiet room.

My heart beats faster in my chest, threatening to come out as the detective opens the door. I rush to the bed. It's been so long since I seen her, the time and abuse did a number on her but I knew she is my sister as soon as I laid eyes on her sleeping figure.

Her hair is still the same color, and the small mole next to her left eye is still there. How she looks so much like our birth dad. A fact mother hated most about her but loved the most about me.

"A-alicia.." I sob out.

"Are you sure—?"

"Yes, this is definitely Alicia." I grab her hand and fall next to her. A tear betrays me as soon as I touch her familiar, warm hand.

"I'll give you a moment."

I can't even nod in response, I just hold her hand. Years of pent up emotions spill out of me.

I watch her eyes slowly flutter open, taking in her surroundings until her eyes land on me then our hands. I wanted her to recognize me, so badly. But all I receive is her quickly pulling her hand away.

"W-who are you?" She stutters out. "Oh no, am I back there?"

"No no no." I quickly stand and step back to make her feel a little more comfortable. "I'm your brother, do you remember me?"

Her large blue eyes stare at me with a mix of confusion and fear, before falling to the side. Now staring at an empty spot on the floor, she shakes her head 'no'.

"I-I'm sorry." She mutters.

"I-It's okay.."

"What's your name?" She finally asks after a long moment of silence.

"Ivan."

She nods, still not making eye contact. "W-what's mine?"

"Alicia." I respond gently. "Alicia Haynes."

She nods again.

"Is there anything else you want to ask? Ill tell you everything." I pull up a chair, meant for the doctor. I don't get near her like I did before, afraid of scaring her away.
