CHAPTER 1:
A Morning in Kai
Finnegans are known for their pale skin, which varies in shade from gene to gene, and their naturally light hair, typically yellowish or lighter. Some Finnegans are born fully white-headed, while others, like Ansel, still have dark hair. A child's hair starts light and darkens over time due to a family genetic feature. Braiding hair is a significant part of their culture, with both men and women frequently wearing their hair in knots and braids. Four-strand braids are common among women, while the elderly and those above 18 often style their hair in the back. The Finnegans are flexitarians, rarely eating meat and primarily relying on plant-based food. This diet contributes to the slim, feminine physiques seen in their males.

Icyln North awoke with a cheery energy, her lips curving into a smile as the mirror reflected light through the hanging vines that adorned her timber-framed bedroom. They call it the "Reflection", an engineered mirror that delivers natural sunlight from above into the houses in Kai, the underground village of Finnegans.
The soft hum of wind against the metal accents of her bedframe blended with the gentle rustle of leaves, creating a serene melody. Her room was like a fairy's haven—a twisted blend of nature and craftsmanship. Timber beams, entwined with creeping plants, framed the walls, while shimmering metal constructs lined the shelves—small wonders she had collected over the years. Delicate lights, powered by the latent energy in the plants, bathed the room in a soft, amber glow.
Swinging her legs over the edge of her bed, Icyln felt the cool touch of the wooden floor beneath her feet. She stretched, feeling the boundless joy that accompanied a new day. Her mind buzzed with excitement as she left her room and stepped into the main room of the house.
