CHAPTER 3:

Train of Encounters

Icyln and Wendy stepped out of Asa's chamber, the heavy doors closing behind them with a soft echo. The weight of unanswered questions seemed to linger in the air between them. They walked in silence through the winding halls of the sacred library, their thoughts tangled in confusion and wonder. When they finally reached the door of Elmspring, Wendy suddenly stopped.

She turned to Icyln, her face serious and determined. Grabbing Icyln's shoulders, she bent down to meet her at eye level. Wendy's eyes, normally warm and reassuring, now brimmed with urgency. Icyln, in contrast, looked bewildered, her mind still reeling from Asa's cryptic words.

"You know that no matter what happens," Wendy said, her voice low but firm, "you cannot speak of what Asa shared with us. Not to anyone. Do you understand?"

Icyln stared back at her, wide-eyed. She hesitated for a moment, but then nodded. Wendy sighed, her expression softening as she pulled Icyln into a hug.

"I don't know what's happening either, Icyln," Wendy murmured against her hair, "but this is an important turning point in your life."

When they finally pulled away, Icyln's eyes were teary, her anxiety bubbling to the surface. "What do you mean by that?" she asked, her voice cracking as the uncertainty gnawed at her.

Wendy cupped Icyln's cheeks gently, her thumbs wiping away the tears that had begun to roll down her face. "I don't know all the answers," she said softly, her voice laced with both compassion and concern. "But I do know that something big is coming. Not just for you, but for the entire tribe. You must trust Asa. And most importantly, you must trust yourself, Icyln. No matter what lies ahead, remember what the most important thing to the Finnegans."

Icyln swallowed, trying to push back the rising tide of emotions. She opened her mouth to respond, but just then, a voice called out from depths of the Elmspring.

"Icyln! Lady Wendy!" Leon's voice carried through the air, his small figure bounding toward them with an eager smile. He waved a pouch in the air as he approached. "You forgot your spices!" he said, smiling wide, his crooked teeth showing.

Icyln could not help but laugh, wiping the last of her tears away. "Oh, Leon, thank you," she said, taking the pouch from him. Leon blushed deeply at her gratitude, his freckles standing out against his now red cheeks.
