I have a feeling you're not prepared for this chapter, lol.

Vincenzo dropped me on the main highway nearest to my home. He suggested to drop me home itself but I figured that would raise both eyebrows of my Mom and I certainly wouldn't risk that when she was already pissed off for some reason. Come back home right now, she texted and if my life experience so far was anything to go by, what she meant was that I should haul my ass in front of her as soon as possible, dropping whatever the hell I was doing and no excuses were allowed. It was emphasized by her two calls that followed.

I was already more late than what she'd prefer. I mean, changing into my own clothes, doing my hair, and fighting the urge to kiss Vincenzo ten times were time-consuming.

And he didn't even get to fuck me like he promised. Ugh, Mom. This better be something good than wanting my car for an errand. She had done that before and smiled as if she was so innocent, she had no idea what she had done.

"You sure you don't want me to go to your home with you?" Vincenzo asked.

"Yeah. I've no idea what I did though."

"I telling you that you're overthinking. You've done nothing, why would she even be angry?"

"Because she's Mom!" I said as if that was the most obvious thing. "I even put my laundry in the basket, made my bed, cleaned my room—oh my god, is it the socks? But I was going to wear them again. I wore them for like ten minutes yesterday!"

Vincenzo laughed and placed his hand on the small of my back, pulling me closer and kissing my head. "Baby, it would be better if you just go home and let Ava speak for herself."

I sighed and nodded. He was right. "How will you go home?" I asked. He drove me in my car here because he 'cannot let me be by myself so late at night'.

It was hardly 10:30 right now. But he was Aryanna's Dad. Who would this man listen to? She had to have gotten her stubbornness from him.

"I'll book a cab. Don't worry about me. Now give me a kiss and rush home."

I tiptoed, putting my arms around his neck. His breath hit my lips as I gently placed mine atop. We moved then in a synchronicity, bidding silent byes until the next time we can be with each other. A strand of fear gripped my heart vicely. What if someone saw us? But it all dissolved when, after the kiss, Vincenzo placed his lips on my forehead and murmured, "I'll see you soon."

Soon. But it already felt so far.

It felt cruel to leave him like that on the road but I steeled my heart. There was that profound, gripping emotion again that I felt like knew but I was so scared to acknowledge it that I just ignored it and drove past.

In my house's driveway, an unfamiliar car stood instead of my Dad's Ford. Range Rover, the words in all capital glinted in sliver across the polished black. I knew no one who owned this car and I doubted it was one of our relatives. It would be posted on our relatives' group by now if it was.

I parked by and swinging open the front door, I announced, "Mom, I'm home," and I continued playing it normal, hooking the car keys in the holder. "Sorry I got late. I just finished up some formatting real quick though work on it is still left—"

Mom spun me to her and hugged me to herself. My eyes widened at her unexpected affection, and when the initial surprise subsided, my attention went to our living space.
