Grief

Haruka stood beneath the Sakura tree, its branches heavy with blossoms that had once brought joy to two young souls now gone. The air was thick with the scent of cherry blossoms, but to Haruka, it was tinged with the bitterness of loss. Tears streamed down her face, unchecked and unrestrained, as she struggled to comprehend the depth of her grief.

"Oh God... Why did this happen?" Haruka's voice wavered, her words a plea to an indifferent universe. She sank to her knees, the weight of sorrow crushing her spirit as memories of Nao and Aya flooded her mind. The sight of the Sakura blossoms, once a symbol of beauty and hope, now felt like a cruel reminder of everything that had been taken from her.

She remembered their laughter, the way it would ring out beneath the shade of this very tree, filling the courtyard with a joy that seemed boundless. She remembered the way their eyes would light up when they talked about the future, their dreams woven together like the branches above them. They had been so full of life, so full of love, and now they were gone, leaving behind an emptiness that echoed through the hollows of her heart.

Haruka clutched a photograph in her trembling hands, a snapshot frozen in time-a testament to love lost too soon. It was a picture of the three of them, taken one sunny afternoon beneath the Sakura tree. Nao and Aya stood on either side of her, their faces lit up with the pure, unbridled joy that only youth could bring. She pressed the photograph to her chest, seeking solace in the warmth of their memories amidst the chill of an uncertain future.

As she knelt there, Haruka felt a deep, aching sense of failure. She had promised to protect them, to guide them, and yet, in the end, she had been powerless to save them from the pain that had claimed their lives. The guilt gnawed at her, sharp and unrelenting, as she wondered if there had been something more she could have done-some sign she had missed, some word left unsaid that might have made a difference.

But the past was unchangeable, and all that remained now were the memories, the photographs, and the quiet, unspoken bond that had once tied them together. Haruka wiped her tears away with the back of her hand, but they continued to flow, an unstoppable torrent of grief that seemed to have no end. She had lost not only two girls she loved as if they were her own, but also a part of herself-a part that had died along with them.

She looked up at the Sakura tree, its blossoms gently swaying in the breeze, and for the first time, it felt like a stranger. This tree, which had once been a symbol of hope, love, and renewal, now stood as a silent witness to the tragedy that had unfolded. Haruka knew she would never see it the same way again. The blossoms, so beautiful in their fragility, now seemed like a cruel joke-a reminder that all things, no matter how precious, were destined to fade away.

Yet, as the wind picked up, scattering a few petals at her feet, Haruka knew she had to carry on. For Nao and Aya, for the love they had shared, she had to keep tending to the Sakura tree. It was all she had left of them, and in its blossoms, she would find the strength to remember them not just for their tragic end, but for the joy, the love, and the light they had brought into her life.

With a deep, shuddering breath, Haruka rose to her feet. She gently placed the photograph at the base of the tree, a small tribute to the love that had once bloomed so brightly beneath its branches. As she did, she whispered a promise to the wind, a vow to keep their memory alive in every petal, every branch, and every season that passed.

She would not let their story end in sorrow. Haruka would carry their love in her heart, nurturing it as she had once nurtured the tree that had witnessed it all. And in doing so, she hoped to find a way to heal, to move forward, even as she carried the weight of their loss with her.

For as long as the Sakura tree stood, so too would the memory of Nao and Aya. Haruka would make sure of that.

Haruka would make sure of that
