05. Vice Captain Impressions

After an exhausting training session, you took a relaxing soak in the shared bathroom area. A few moments later, the other girls entered, chatting among themselves. Noticing you in the tub, they exchanged greetings before turning to you with a curious question.

"What's your impression of Vice Captain Hoshina?" one of them asked, eager to hear your thoughts.

"Why the sudden interest?" you replied, caught off guard by their excitement.

"Come on, tell us!" they urged, eyes bright with anticipation.

You hesitated, avoiding eye contact as your social energy was already drained.

Finally, you gave in to the pressure and spoke honestly. You explained that you see Vice Captain Hoshina as someone who seems carefree and cheerful most of the time, but with a more serious side that only emerges during combat. The way he wields his dual blades and how his eyes take on that striking purple outline during battle—it's captivating. You've noticed how much he cares for everyone in the Third Division, something you deeply respect. He takes pride in his position, always training hard to live up to the expectations set by Captain Ashiro. And, if you're being completely honest, you find him incredibly cute, especially when he jokes or laughs. His toothy grin is where your attention often lingers. Even when he acts strict, and tells you to focus on your training more while he takes on the heavier burdens of killing kaiju 8 & 9. you can tell it comes from a place of care, not wanting you to risk your life more than necessary.

To be truthful, you wish you could get to know the Vice Captain beyond his role as a formal authority—more as a person.

"you seem to be interested in the Vice Captain, (y/n)." Ashiro said as she walked into the room.

"n-no! i-i just admire him!" Blushing at the sentence, you stuttered and deny the claim. Ashiro giggled at the claim as it was very apparent about how you feel about the Vice Captain is plastered all over your face.

You gave the excuse of needing to clean your room and hurried out, not wanting to continue the conversation and embarrassing yourself further. As you were doing that, Ashiro thought to herself "Your probably listening into our conversation as it is now, ain't you, Hoshina." as she dipped into the tub. "i hope you treat her well." Ashiro ended her thoughts there as she knew that Hoshina has had feelings for you as he had been giving you more attention than the others.

Meanwhile, in the office, an unusually flustered Vice Captain Hoshina tried to hide his blushing, smiling face.

"How am I supposed to act around you now?" he mused, fingers resting thoughtfully on his chin. The feelings he had kept hidden were bubbling up with excitement, now that he knew you might feel the same. He began to plan his next move.

"I can't believe I said all that yesterday... Thank goodness none of the guys were around," you sighed, the weight of your words catching up with you. Regret crept up your spine as you made your way to the training room for your one-on-one session with Hoshina.

"I'm here...?" you announced, stopping short at the sight of Hoshina mid-workout. His toned body, refined muscles—all clearly visible in his compression shirt. It was rare to see him without his jacket, and the view left you speechless. You were more than amazed—you were hooked. High-key more attracted to him than ever before. "Crap," you muttered under your breath, trying to calm your racing heart.

"oh, (y/n) your here..?" Hoshina paused his workout, noticing you slap your cheeks in an attempt to regain composure.

"I'm fine! Let's just start training!" you blurted, desperate to avoid his concerned gaze. But then, unexpectedly, Hoshina walked over and gently cupped your flushed cheeks, checking to see if you were really okay.

This was the first time the Vice Captain had openly shown concern for you like this. Normally, he would've told you to be careful and jumped straight into training. Now, he was touching you, his fingers softly grazing your skin, his face marked by genuine worry—a side of him you'd never seen before. Your face burned with embarrassment, and you tried to back away, but he pulled you closer, his arm wrapping around your waist.

"Why are you avoiding me, (y/n)? Do you dislike it when I show you concern? Or... when I touch you?" His voice was soft, his purple eyes staring into yours, his face slightly flushed from his question.

Being so close to your crush made you stumble over your words. "I-I-it's not like I want to avoid you. It's just... I didn't think you'd give me a second thought. And it's not like I hate when you touch me. In fact, I like it... a lot. But—but—" You were cut off by Hoshina's chuckle, his laughter melting your nerves.

"You're so cute, you know that,(y/n)?"he teased, his grin widening as he looked at your flustered expression.

"Ehhhhh!? what do you mean?!" you blurted, standing up straight and demanding an answer.

"Let me show you." He wrapped his arm around you, gently lifting your chin with the other, leaning in slowly. You panicked, squeezing your eyes shut, waiting for the kiss you thought was coming... but instead, he whispered into your ear, "You were expecting a kiss, weren't you?"

Your eyes snapped open as you began playfully smacking him, upset at his teasing.

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry," he laughed. "But I meant what I said earlier. You're cute,(y/n). and I'd love to make you mine if you let me."

His sudden confession left you speechless. Sensing your overwhelming emotions, he simply asked, "If you agree, just nod."

You nodded slowly, shyly looking away.

With a toothy smirk, he lifted you off the ground and gently kissed your lips.

"How's that, (Y/N)?"

"You're a bully."

"Well, I'm your bully now."

a few weeks later you found out why Hoshina was so bold when he was asking you out...

"EH?! you overheard my conversation with the others?! That's cheating!"

"I'm sorry. i didn't mean to..."

"Hmph, now you owe me two desserts."
