Enjoy Chapter 2.

REDIS POV

Never in his life would Redis think his oh-so-boring life would turn into something different in such a gruesome way. If he knew, he would've never wanted his life to change, to have some diversity in it.

At the start of his day, he would walk into the town to sell some vegetables and fruits that he and his mother grew before returning home. It's the same. Once in a while, he would go and sell things. On other days, he would be in the forest gathering mushrooms, or he would help his mother around the house, even on the small field they owned.

But most of the days, he would just take walks, lay in bed, or let his creative mind run free on a canvas or other things.

Yet all of these things got bland after years.

While others would go out to make friends, Redis was rather by himself, enjoying the peace and quiet around him. It wasn't like he couldn't talk to people; he simply didn't feel the need to have others around him constantly.

He knew that friendships could be great. He sometimes felt envy when he saw small groups of people his age laughing and enjoying their time together, but the moment this feeling came, it disappeared.

But today felt strange.

The moment he woke up, his stomach twisted and turned slightly as if giving him a small warning. Yet he pushed it onto having slept badly that night.

As he went to town, the feeling in his stomach got slightly more painful—until the moment the carriages of the leaders arrived. This time, the annual meeting was held in Crunao, and he remembered the townpeople happily chattering about it days, even weeks before.

It's obviously not a common occurrence for the leaders to come together.

Taking glances at the pompous carriages adorned with the most prized materials of each Kingdom, he couldn't help but feel quite frustrated. Were their Leaders also so greedy? Redis couldn't help that thought. Everybody knew the King of Crunao, Quinn Crunao, was a greedy bastard.

He takes, and takes, and takes, but never gives if he doesn't gain anything from it. Redis knew it best, as he was one of the many families living on the outskirts because it doesn't pay off to grow and sell. Which was a harsh thing, as they sold into town to bakers their bread and dough.

As they tried to sell it themselves, there was barely anyone coming to them, as they were seen as dirty. When Redis said his life was peaceful and quiet, he knew that the Kingdom wasn't run properly. There was barely a chance to grow higher in status if you weren't born with one in the first place.

So he grabbed the few silver coins, secured them in a small bag inside of his shirt, and made his way back. The path back to his home wasn't short, as the town, which you could call a city at this point, was big.

Kicking a few loose stones ahead of his feet, Redis walked in a peaceful silence. As he walked past the loud crowd, cheering and chattering, he couldn't help but take a look at the carriages again. He caught a glimpse of onyx eyes before quickly continuing on his way.

It felt strange to make eye contact, or he was simply telling himself that he made eye contact. The person in the carriage could've simply looked at someone or something else.

Embarrassed at his own thought, Redis quickened his pace, making his way down the street in a light jog while trying not to get smashed into the stonewalls of the houses. As he jogged past the last carriage, the crowd slowly dissipated, going back to their daily lives. Walking past groups of all ages, he felt out of place walking all by himself.
