When Y/N awoke, she found herself in a warm, softly lit room, the scent of pine and herbs mingling with the crackle of a nearby fire.

Smooth, pale stone walls enclosed the space, their surfaces etched with intricate designs that seemed to pulse with ancient energy.

Thick, luxurious furs covered the soft bed beneath her, a stark contrast to the sharp pain that flared in her side as she shifted.

Her arm was bandaged, and she noticed that a simple tunic had been draped over her original clothes, making her feel more comfortable than before.

"You're awake."

The deep voice startled her, drawing her gaze to the tall figure standing at the doorway. Thor. He stepped closer, his expression guarded, though his eyes held a flicker of concern.

"I did not intend to startle you," Thor said, taking a seat beside her. "You collapsed after the battle. Rest assured, you are safe now."

The last thing Y/N remembered was the terror of facing those wild creatures, the chaos, and then... fire and frost. "Where am I?"

"One of my safe houses," Thor replied, his tone measured as he watched her closely. "It is a refuge for rest and recovery. You were fortunate to survive.

"Fortunate?" Y/N echoed, her voice trembling. "I was nearly killed by those creatures."

Thor's gaze softened slightly. "And yet, you were not. The fire and frost you wielded are far from ordinary. Have you ever harnessed such power before?"

Y/N shook her head. "No, it just... happened. I didn't know I could do that."

Thor's gaze shifted to the clothing beneath her tunic, his eyes narrowing slightly as he took in the unfamiliar style. "You are not from here, are you? You hail from Midgard?"

Y/N hesitated before nodding. "Yes. I'm from Midgard."

Thor's brow furrowed slightly. "Midgardians do not usually possess powers like yours. It is rare even among Asgardians."

Y/N shifted uncomfortably under Thor's scrutinizing gaze, the weight of his words sinking in. "I don't understand any of this. I shouldn't have these powers. I've never—" she broke off, her voice faltering as memories of her visions and Loki flashed through her mind. "I've never had them before."

As she spoke, her hand absently brushed against the necklace resting against her chest. It felt warm, almost alive, and when she glanced down, she noticed the gemstone faintly glowing, shifting between icy blue and fiery orange. A jolt of recognition shot through her.

Thor's eyes followed hers to the necklace, his expression growing serious. "That necklace... has it been in your possession for long?"

Y/N shook her head, the memory of Lilith fastening it around her neck still vivid. "No, a friend..." She hesitated, her voice faltering before she continued, "someone gave it to me on my birthday."

Thor's gaze darkened, and he leaned forward slightly, his voice low and grave. "That is no ordinary gift. Do you trust this... friend of yours?"

Y/N hesitated. Lilith had been like a sister, but everything had changed since the night of the vortex. The accusation, the strange way Lilith had looked at her, almost like a predator circling prey. She swallowed hard, her fingers still brushing the warm gemstone. "I did, but now... I'm not so sure."

Thor's expression remained unreadable, but there was a flicker of recognition in his eyes. "You must be careful. There are forces at play here that go far beyond what you know. This necklace—it binds you to something ancient, something powerful. Whether for good or ill, I do not yet know."

Y/N shifted uncomfortably, her pulse quickening. "I didn't ask for this," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I didn't ask for any of this."

Thor's face softened, his tone gentler. "Most never do. But fate rarely asks permission. You must be prepared for what's to come, Y/N."

Y/N's face was etched with profound fear, her brow knitted tightly as her eyes darted around. "What if I can't control it? What if this power... destroys everything I care about?"

Thor's expression softened, a glimmer of understanding in his eyes. "You are not alone in this struggle, Y/N. Whatever power resides within you, we shall confront it together. Control will come in time, but you must not give in to fear."

His words wrapped around her like a protective shield, and Y/N found herself nodding, despite the fear gnawing at her. She wanted to believe him, to trust that she could control this power without it consuming her.

A wave of exhaustion hit Y/N as Thor spoke, the adrenaline that had kept her awake finally ebbing away. She gave a small, tired smile. "Thank you, Thor. For everything."

Thor returned the smile, albeit a small one, and stood up. "Rest now, Y/N. I shall remain close by, ready to aid you should you need anything."

As he took a few steps back, giving her space, Y/N's eyes fluttered closed, her body sinking deeper into the comforting embrace of the furs. The questions and fears still lingered, but for now, she let herself drift back into sleep, trusting that clarity would come with time.

Unbeknownst to her, the first signs of her transformation were beginning to take hold. Her skin, once warm, began to cool, taking on a faint shimmer like frost glistening under moonlight. Soft wisps of cold mist escaped with each exhale, hanging in the air. Within her chest, a deep, chilling cold radiated outward.

Thor stepped forward cautiously, his eyes narrowing as the scene unfolded. Frost began to creep outward from Y/N's chest, slowly crystallizing the blankets around her, shimmering in the firelight.

At the same time, her hands glowed with a soft, orange light, flickers of flame dancing across her fingertips in sharp contrast to the encroaching cold. Tiny embers floated into the air, leaving faint scorch marks behind.

Thor stood in silent awe. For a brief moment, he glimpsed translucent wings forming on her back, shimmering faintly before fading away. The energy lingering in the air was undeniable, even as her form stilled.

"By the Norns, what in all the Nine Realms...?" Thor muttered, his brow furrowing as waves of cold and heat radiated from Y/N. The battle between frost and flame within her was unlike anything he had ever encountered—clearly beyond the limits of any ordinary Midgardian power.

A mix of helplessness and determination surged through him. Thor clenched his fists, wracking his memory for any ancient Asgardian texts or lore that might explain the power stirring within her. The faint shimmer on her skin, pulsing rhythmically like a heartbeat, only deepened the mystery.

His eyes fell to the necklace on her chest, its gemstone flickering between icy blue and fiery orange. "The necklace..." he whispered. Though her form appeared to return to normal, the air still hummed with residual energy. Thor knew the necklace held the key to her transformation, but the full extent of it remained a mystery he couldn't yet decipher.

Thor hesitated. He knew what he had to do, but the thought filled him with unease. There was only one person with the knowledge of magic and ancient lore that Thor lacked, someone who might be able to help him understand what was happening. But seeking that help meant drawing Y/N into an unpredictable orbit, one that Thor wasn't entirely comfortable with.

He was mercurial, his reactions difficult to anticipate—especially where a Midgardian was concerned. Yet, despite his reservations, Thor knew he had no other choice. With a sigh, Thor turned away from the bed and left the room, his footsteps heavy with the weight of his decision. He needed to find him, and quickly. Time was running out, and whatever was happening to Y/N was accelerating.

He would have to turn to...

Loki.
