"Got the gas voucher for the day?" I asked as Lightning walked towards me.
"No. Sheriff was, uh, busy." Lightning kicked a can hard and it went into an open garage. A crashing came from the building. "Shit..."
We peeked into the garage. It was cluttered and messy.
McQueen gave a whistle. "Whoa, Doc." He chuckled. "Time to clean out the garage, buddy, come on."
I looked around. "Woof. I haven't seen something this cluttered since my grandmother's craftro-" I froze. "Lightning... Lightning!" I hit his arm and pointed at the window where the gold glint had caught my eye. "Isn't that a Piston Cup?"
Lightning picked up the trophy. "Hudson Hornet 1951..." He looked around as suddenly moved a box, revealing 2 more Piston Cup trophies. "Oh, my god. Three Piston Cups?"
"1952 and 1953," I said. A newspaper sat next to them. "Third Piston Cup Win. Hudson Hornet champion for all time."
"Holy shit," Lightning said. "Was Doc on team 51?"
"Sign says stay out," Doc's voice said angrily.
Lightning and I jumped in surprise.
"You... you... You've got three Piston Cups!" Lightning stammered. "H-how could you have-?"
Doc shook his head. "I knew you couldn't drive. I didn't know you couldn't read." Doc pushed Lightning out of his way.
McQueen pushed his hand into his hair in astonishment. "You're the Hudson Hornet!"
"Wait over at Flo's like I told you!!" Doc snarled at us.
"L, we should-"
"Of course. I can't believe I didn't see it before!" Lightning said. "You're The Fabulous Hudson Hornet! You still to hold the record for most wins in single season! Oh, we gotta talk. You gotta show me your tricks. Please."
Doc shook his head. "I already tried that."
"And you won the championship three times!" Lightning said. "Look at those trophies!"
Doc scoffed and pushed us out. "You look. All I see is a bunch of empty cups." Doc slammed the door on us.
"Hey, J..." Lighting said. "You know what this means?"
"We just met the real Hudson Hornet? The very racer that got us into racing together?"
"Yeah, that..." Lighting grabbed my arm. "We have to tell everyone!"
"L that feels like a bad idea. He kept it quiet for a reason. Maybe he doesn't want others to know?"
"Why wouldn't he want people to know?" Lightning pulled me to Flo's. The door hadn't even finished closing before Lightning yelled, "Did you know Doc is a famous racer?!"
There was silence as the residents of the town stared at us. Then roaring laughter.
"Doc?" Sheriff asked. "Our Doc?"
Sarge had to stifle his laughter. "Not Doc Hudson."
"It's true!" I argued. "He's a real racing legend!"
"He's The Fabulous Hudson Hornet!" Lightning said.
"Fabulous?" Flo laughed. "I never seen Doc drive more than 20 miles an hour. I mean, have you ever seen him race?"
"No, but I wish I could have!" Lightning said. "They say he was amazing! He won three Piston Cups!"
"He did what in his cup?" Mater asked.
