Chapter 4 - Kitsune Pt. 3

The sun was barely over the horizon when Kitsune, Supernova, Nebula, and Arashi gathered outside the guild hall, the air thick with anticipation. Today was the day Kitsune would face her entrance exam—a test that would determine her place in the guild and solidify her position as a member of their team.

Kitsune's nerves were palpable. She knew the exam wouldn't be easy; it was designed to push new recruits to their limits. But she was determined to prove herself, not just to the guild but to her new friends as well. They had placed their trust in her, and she refused to let them down.

"You've got this, Kitsune," Supernova said, his voice steady and reassuring. He placed a hand on her shoulder, giving her a confident nod. "Remember, we're all here for you."

Arashi grinned, bouncing on the balls of his feet, his usual energy radiating off him in waves. "And when you pass, we'll go out and celebrate. I've got my eye on some new gear that'll make us unstoppable."

Nebula, ever calm and composed, offered a small smile. "Just stay focused. You're stronger than you think."

Kitsune took a deep breath, feeling their support bolster her resolve. "Thanks, guys. I'll do my best."

The entrance exam was held in a large arena behind the guild hall, a place where recruits could showcase their skills under the watchful eyes of guild veterans. The arena was a circular stone pit, surrounded by high walls and filled with various obstacles—pillars, pits, and platforms designed to test both agility and strategy.

As Kitsune stepped into the arena, she could feel the weight of dozens of eyes on her. The spectators, mostly guild members, were eager to see how the newcomer would fare. In the center of the arena stood a seasoned guild examiner, a tall man with a stern expression and a deep scar running down his cheek.

"You must be Kitsune," the examiner said, his voice gruff. "I've heard about your abilities. This test will determine whether you have what it takes to join the guild. You'll face three opponents, each more difficult than the last. Defeat them, and you pass. Fail... and you're out."

Kitsune nodded, her heart pounding in her chest. "I'm ready."

The examiner's lips twitched in what could have been a smile, but it was gone in an instant. He raised his hand, signaling the start of the exam. "Your first opponent: Raga, the Earth Golem!"

From the opposite end of the arena, a massive stone figure lumbered into view. Raga was a towering behemoth, its body composed of jagged rocks and earth. Its eyes glowed a deep, malevolent red as it stomped forward, each step shaking the ground beneath it.

Kitsune's heart skipped a beat, but she quickly steadied herself. She activated Predator Eye, her senses sharpening as she assessed her opponent. Raga was slow but powerful, and she would need to rely on her speed and agility to bring it down.

With a burst of energy, Kitsune darted forward, her Twin Claws glowing with a fierce light. She circled around the golem, looking for an opening. Raga swung its massive arm at her, but Kitsune was too fast, ducking under the blow and slashing at its side.

The golem roared in pain, the rocks splintering where her claws made contact. But it wasn't enough to stop it. Raga turned with surprising speed, its other arm coming down in a crushing blow. Kitsune barely dodged, the ground where she had stood moments before shattering under the force.

Kitsune knew she couldn't afford to play defense for long. She needed to take the golem down quickly. Summoning all her strength, she leaped onto one of the platforms, using it as a springboard to launch herself at the golem's head. Her Twin Claws struck true, slicing through the golem's eye, and with a deafening roar, Raga crumbled to the ground, defeated.
