Chapter 4 : Being an only Child is fine

Annabeth's Pov

Again. Alecto is the eldest and leader of the Furry trio. She and her sisters are servants under Hades. She has a twisted face, resembling that of a bastard. Her teeth are so sharp that they could bite me to pieces. She has two pairs of wings on her back to fly. It may sound unbelievable but she also has hair, her hair looks like a few strands of noodles, messy and scattered. Her fingernails are long like sticks and have sharp claws. She is wearing a normal business suit (which she has been wearing since the 2000 when she worked under Hades because it looks more professional, although with that body it is strange to see her like that)
Alecto saw me and handed me a bottle of water. It looked like normal water, and I hoped it was really normal. I poured a small drop on my hand to see if there was any reaction. No reaction at all. I carefully drank the water. No special reaction, it seemed like this was just normal water.

-Are you still as suspicious as ever, princess?

Alecto said in a slightly bored tone, but then she smiled faintly, slightly raising her lips. It seemed like she was mocking me.

"Princess" sounded so childish and I personally didn't like being called that. But whatever, I was indeed the princess of the Underworld, although I wasn't interested in it myself. Besides, no matter how many times I said it, they wouldn't change the name, so I gave up early. I moved closer to Alecto.

-So what day is it today?

I asked, wanting to know the exact date and time

-Today is June 10th.

Alecto replied.

Great, I really wasted 6 months of my life. I sighed.

-So, what was the mission like? And who was the boy assigned to it?

I changed the topic to the person who received the prophecy.

-Perseus Jackson, almost 12 years old, from Mahantta, New York. He had just received his assignment this morning, just before Lord Hades sent you an Iris-message. A son of Haephatus, he had the ability to control fire. He had only been at Camp Half-Blood for 2 weeks. And he was due to begin his assignment tomorrow.

Wasn't Perseus the name of the hero Perseus, son of Zeus? Was he named after his uncle? A son of Haephatus who had the ability to control fire. He had a very rare ability, and could also bring disaster. People with such abilities were often teased by fate. The last time there was one, he caused a fire that turned London upside down. It seemed I should observe and study him carefully.

-Is that so? Can we go now? You know... Hades told me to follow him anyway.

Alecto started shadow traveling and led me through a dark tunnel typical of shadow traveling. Maybe when I get better at it, I'll be able to shadow travel further. Like across the ocean? Then she took me near a forest. Honestly, I didn't want to be near the Half Blood camp at all, it brought back bad memories for me. Thinking that, I had to do it anyway. I took a breath and shadow traveled to a dark place somewhere in the Half Blood camp. Maybe this was the camp's armory.

First I guessed I should eavesdrop on cabin 10-Aphrodite, you know the daughters of Aphrodite (and some of the boys) love to talk about everyone in the camp (mostly bad things or rumors). I was their topic too.
