Seven Days Later
The night lasted a jiffy as the morning sun rose in the sky.
There was not even a minute I slept.
My mind was filled with constant thoughts of the suspects.
The girl Natalia, Marco had mentioned was clean, and we had another strike.
Michele's bar was vandalized last night.
I was there, the entire night for the damage control.
There was a message, spray painted on the walls of the bar.
"Surrender now, and perhaps we'll spare the scraps of your fallen empire. Not everyone can be as great as the Russians. Tick tock."
They are closer than we think and our families are not as safe as we think.
It was like an endless dream, where always as I neared the conclusion of the unsolved mystery, I saw a dead end.
The last time's message to them was may be unclear, it may have not reflected my wrath against them.
This needs to fucking stop.
The Russians needs to be annihilated.
My mind was filled with thoughts of everyone around me, analyzing the damage they can cause if they ever decided to turn their backs on me... or they already have.
I needed answers so I can eliminate the ones who chose to betray me.
I was interrupted as my phone rung. It was a message from Lorenzo.
It read, 'I had already begun conducting some background searches and I believe that I have seen something of interest: can we meet?'
To this I agreed, and after some persuasion I arranged to meet him in a café not far from my place.
I was busy thinking about the message he gave me which was devastating and confusing at the same time as I prepared for meeting.
In the café, Lorenzo was already there waiting for me, a folder placed in front of him.
His eyes were heavy and red-rimmed when I came over, and his face was drawn.
"Serafina," he said warmly but formally, if that's possible. "I've gone through the background checks, and there's something concerning."
I joined him and we remained face to face I am scared. "What did you find?"
He went to the document's folder and spread on the table several documents and reports. "It is probable but not certain that the information leak occurred from your side and more precisely, it may be linked with your house."
I blinked in disbelief. 'Impossible, how could it be from my house?'
Lorenzo's gaze was steady.
"But it is possible", he said with determination, taking a sip of his water, "I ran checks on the staff, including cleaners and service personnel. There were anomalies. Two of the workers had some unusual transactions recently."
