15 Days Later

The weight of the pen drive in my hand felt heavier with each step I took toward Lucien's bar.

The sound of my heels echoing off the marble floor did little to soothe the turmoil in my chest.

Today was supposed to be the day everything changed—the day I finally exposed Eleanor for the snake she truly was.

But as I approached the bar, a sliver of doubt crept into my mind, like a cold finger tracing the edges of my resolve.

The bar was unusually quiet, the kind of quiet that makes you feel like something bad is about to happen.

It was late afternoon, and the usual crowd was absent, leaving the place eerily empty.

The familiar smell of cigars and whiskey clung to the air, a reminder of the countless nights spent here, plotting, planning, and pretending that everything was under control.

But everything was far from it now.

Lucien stood behind the counter, his back to me, busying himself with something I couldn't see.

The sight of him, so calm and composed, only fueled my anger.

How could he be so blind? How could he not see the danger lurking right under his nose?

I tightened my grip on the pen drive, feeling the edges dig into my palm as I approached him.

"Lucien," I called out, my voice betraying the tension I tried so hard to hide.

He turned, a smile playing on his lips as he saw me.

But it faded quickly when he noticed the look on my face. "Serafina, what's wrong?" he asked, his brow furrowing with concern.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. This was it.

"We need to talk," I said, my voice firm, though my heart was pounding so hard I was sure he could hear it.

He nodded, gesturing for me to join him at the bar.

As I approached, I could feel the tension in the air, thick and suffocating. I handed him the pen drive, watching as he took it with a frown. "This," I began, "is everything you need to know about Eleanor."

Lucien's frown deepened as he plugged the drive into his laptop, pulling up the files.

My breath caught in my throat as I watched him, waiting for the moment the truth would finally be revealed.

But as the first video played, my stomach dropped.

Instead of the incriminating footage I was expecting, the screen showed Eleanor in the kitchen, calmly chopping vegetables for dinner.

She looked so... ordinary, so innocent, as she went about her day, unaware that she was being watched.

The video cut to another scene-her at the grocery store, browsing the aisles with a soft smile on her face.
