note:
I'll be honest, this chapter is not the best - translationwise. I apologize but some things just didn't make sense and I skipped them. If you can make them logical, please be so kind and write the correct parts/sentences in the comments and I will change it <3
23. Ominous Clouds
"Did you catch anything?"
"No. Not a bite."
"Ha....... We're running out of time."
"Why don't you pay a little more money and ask for an extra hour?"
"No, no, no. It's almost summer, and the warmer it gets, the more sea monsters there are. Besides, there's been a lot of surveillance at headquarters lately. A week ago, several anglers went missing in the South Sea."
Two men dressed as fishermen talked quietly, staring at their still rods.
"You and I must have swollen livers. Can't believe we're out fishing after hearing such news."
At sea, even when dungeons were open, they were not easy to clear. Espers are often limited in their abilities underwater, and many nations leave dungeons that open in deep waters unresolved. South Korea was surrounded by the sea on three sides, so the threat of sea monsters was greater than inland countries.
Since the monsters appeared, people have moved further and further away from the sea. But for those who stayed, it hasn't stopped them from fishing for survival.
When the weather was cold, sea monsters rarely came to the surface. They hibernatet in the depths of the ocean – similar to bears in winter.
Now it was end of spring, and the monsters were slowly awakening.
Unfortunately the two men couldn't forget the taste of their first catch, so they took the risk of acquiring a boat and sailing off the coast of Incheon.
It was powered by a magic stone. All they had to do was put in the coordinates of their destination and it would drive itself. As the appointed time was approaching, the boat's radio activated with ‚danger' noises.
"Ten more minutes, I think we're going to have a last-minute catch."
They ignored the beeping, using the fact that nothing had happened in years as an excuse. They knew they'd be yelled at by an irate Center worker when they got back to port, but they knew he'd be quiet again when they handed over the wad of fish in their arms. "Uh, uh......?"
"What is it, this isn't normal,no?" The reel of the fishing rod the man was holding began to spin furiously. His friend next to him held the rod still and grabbed his waist as the fish's strength dragged him to the ground.
"Hey, this can't be a monster, right......?
"If it was a monster, it would have cut the line at once! Quickly reel in the line and pull!"
"Ugh, yeah.....!"
The force felt in his hands was too great for a normal fish, but at his friend's shout, the man began to reel in the line with haste. To make matters worse, it was raining. The weather at sea had many faces.
The calm face that had just swyed the sea slowly distorted and the height of the waves fluctuated, rocking the boat like it was about to tip over.
"Uhhhhh......!"
"Watch out!"
Their feet on the deck kept slipping in the rain. Finally, the man decided to let go of the fishing rod in his hand.
