Y/N POV:
~~~
The rain started outside, soft at first, a gentle patter against the windows that soon grew into a steady rhythm. I listened to it for a moment, trying to draw some comfort from the familiar sound, but it did little to calm the unease curling in my stomach. I shifted on the plush sofa, my fingers tracing the embroidered patterns on the cushion I held in my lap. The ticking of the wall clock was the only other sound filling the silence between me and Yuna, apart from the rain. I glanced at her, sitting across from me, legs crossed, her eyes fixed on something just past my shoulder.
The room hadn't changed much—same pale blue walls, the same framed pictures of us from our high school days, the same cozy throws I used to wrap myself in during our movie nights. But something was different, something that made the air feel thicker, heavier.
"It's really coming down out there," I said softly, breaking the silence, my voice tentative. I was trying to bridge the growing gap between us, but Yuna's gaze only flickered towards me briefly, a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips that didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Yeah, it is," she replied, her tone flat, almost distracted. She picked up her phone from the coffee table, quickly checking something before placing it back down. The action was casual, but it made my heart sink a little. I had hoped for more—hoped that after all the weeks of silence, Yuna would be more engaged, more like the friend I once knew.
I took a deep breath, deciding to share something that might spark some interest. "I've actually moved in with my brother, Hongjoong, and his group," I said, my eyes on Yuna, waiting for a reaction. "You know, ATEEZ?"
There was a brief pause, and Yuna's eyes narrowed slightly as if she was trying to recall something. Then she nodded, but the acknowledgment was almost dismissive. "Oh, that's... cool, I guess."
Cool? I thought, surprised by the lackluster response. I had expected a barrage of questions, curiosity, maybe even a bit of excitement—after all, it wasn't every day that someone moved in with a K-pop group, especially one as famous as ATEEZ. But instead, Yuna's reaction was muted, almost as if I was talking about something trivial.
"Yeah, it's been... an adjustment," I continued, trying to keep the conversation alive. "But they've all been really nice. Well, most of them, anyway."
Yuna looked up, her interest seemingly piqued for a moment, but she quickly masked it with a nonchalant shrug. "That's good, I guess. So, how long are you planning to stay there?"
I hesitated, the words catching in my throat. I wasn't sure how to answer—how long would I stay? It was something I hadn't fully figured out myself. "I'm not sure yet," I admitted. "I guess until I find a place of my own or, you know, when things settle down."
"Right," Yuna said, her tone still distant. She glanced at the clock on the wall, her fingers tapping lightly on the armrest of the chair. The silence that followed was deafening, and I could feel the weight of unspoken words hanging in the air between us.
"Yuna," I finally said, unable to bear the tension any longer, "you said you had something important to tell me? Is everything okay?"
For a moment, Yuna didn't respond. She seemed lost in thought, her eyes focused on some point far beyond the room we were in. Then, with a deep sigh, she leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees, her hands clasped together.
"It's not easy to say this, Y/N," Yuna began, her voice softer now, tinged with a seriousness that made my stomach twist with apprehension. "But I've been meaning to talk to you about... us. About our friendship."
