"Where's Noir?" Soldier Boy demanded, his eyes sliding across the room, studying it for any unseen threats.
"Noir won't be joining us because I killed him," Homelander coolly explained. "He didn't tell me about you. He betrayed me. Something I'm sure you understand all too well." He looked directly at Maeve, his eyes twinkling, before moving back to Soldier Boy. "Your team betrayed you too. But if you and I aligned? We'd make everyone else pay. They'd never stand a chance against us together. Father and son."
Soldier Boy took a few steps closer, his boots thudding menacingly on the floor as he slowly closed the gap between them. "Maybe so. Unless we take each other out first."
Homelander shot a scornful look at Butcher. "Why? Just because he says we should? He's just a human. He's nothing. Less than nothing."
Butcher moved closer, his face twisting with anger. "Soldier Boy- don't listen to this fucking twit. He ain't your kid."
Homelander shook his head, his glare intensifying. "Yes, the fuck I am. I am your son. Your blood. And that is all that matters!"
Soldier Boy watched Homelander. His expression crisp and focused as he slowly moved to a nearby partition and held out a hand to whomever appeared to be hiding on the other side. Slowly, he revealed a young boy
"Ryan!" Butcher gasped.
Ryan followed Homelander out and stood beside him with a mixture of pride and fear.
"This is my son. Your grandson," Homelander announced.
Ryan looked up at Soldier Boy and greeted him with an edge of uncertainty on his voice. "Hi, grandpa."
"See? We have a family," Homelander urged.
"And what a shame it is that I've missed so much," Soldier Boy sighed as he finally closed the gap between them. He reached out and laid a hand on Homelander's shoulder. "I really wish I could have raised you. Taught you, father to son."
Homelander's face took on a sense of relaxation. He failed to notice the subtle play of emotions on Soldier Boy's face as he put together the mistakes of his failed relationship with his dad and how they were playing out all over again. As usual, Homelander saw what he wanted to see.
"It's alright, dad," Homelander spoke in a soothing voice. "Because now we have each other. We don't have to be alone anymore."
Soldier Boy tightened his grip on Homelander's shoulder. "If I'd raised you I could have made you better," he growled, eliciting a look of muted shock on Homelander's face. "And not some weak, sniveling pussy. Starved for attention. But there's no fixing that now."
Homelander tilted his head, now even more confused. This wasn't how it was supposed to be. This wasn't his design. "How can I be weak when I'm you?"
Soldier Boy shook his head slowly, the weight of his own failures pressing upon him. "Yeah, I know you are. You're a fucking disappointment. Just like me."
Choosing his moment perfectly, Blitz emerged from the shadows nearby. This wouldn't just be a fight of physical prowess and power; it was psychological warfare. And if Homelander wanted to play head games by introducing Ryan into the fray, then Blitz could play that game too.
Homelander's eyes blazed with an amalgamation of emotions that made Blitz's skin crawl as he stepped out of the shadows and stood with Soldier Boy, Butcher, and Maeve. Tilting his head, he released a pleased smile as he momentarily lost focus of Soldier Boy and the wreckage left by his declaration. But it wasn't what Blitz would ever call an actual smile; it was a twisted parody of one. Because what lurked within that gesture was reptilian, calculating- the absolute antithesis of humanity.
