"You got a pad?" Chance asked as she walked up to my desk, her voice cutting through the hum of homeroom chatter. She had this impatient look on her face, hands on her hips like it was the end of the world.

"Ask Soul," I replied, glancing up from my sketchbook, trying not to laugh. I pointed to my twin sister.

Soulynn was slumped over her desk, her Pink Apple Max headphones hanging halfway off her head. She looked like she'd been dragged straight outta bed. "How you gonna be on yo period and not have a pad? That's crazyyyyy," I said, shaking my head in disbelief.

"Gurl, hush. I literally just got it when I went to the bathroom, and I wasn't even supposed to get it until next week," she sighed, rolling her eyes like she was annoyed with her own bad luck. Soul tossed a pad over to Chance, laying her head back down, her long curls spilling over the desk.

"And make sure you tell Mr. Barclay where I'm at before he shows up," she said, dropping her bag on the desk next to me as she headed for the door. "You know he be tryna mark people tardy for no damn reason."
