The four weeks had passed slowly, each day marked by a countdown in Lily's mind. Every morning, she woke up with a mixture of anticipation and anxiety, knowing that Nikita's return was drawing closer. She had thrown herself into her work, preparing for the dance exams and keeping herself busy to ward off the loneliness. But now, the day she had been waiting for was finally here.

Nikita was coming home.

Lily had spent the entire morning cleaning the apartment, her nervous energy driving her to make everything perfect. She had prepared his favorite meal, set the table, and even picked up fresh flowers for the dining room. Everything was ready, but now, all she could do was wait.

She paced the living room, glancing at the clock every few minutes, her heart racing with excitement. Finally, she heard the sound of a car pulling up outside. Her breath caught in her throat as she rushed to the window, and when she saw Nikita stepping out of the vehicle, her heart soared.

But as she opened the door to greet him, she noticed something she hadn't expected—Nikita wasn't alone.

A tall, broad-shouldered man with short-cropped hair stepped out of the car beside him. He had a relaxed, easygoing demeanor, and the two men were laughing about something as they grabbed their bags from the trunk.

Lily hesitated for a moment, caught off guard by the unexpected guest, but then she pushed aside her surprise and stepped outside. The sight of Nikita, with his familiar smile and warm eyes, was enough to make her forget everything else.

"Nikita!" she called out, her voice filled with happiness.

Nikita turned, his smile widening as he saw her. He dropped his bag and closed the distance between them in a few quick strides, pulling her into a tight embrace. Lily wrapped her arms around him, savoring the feel of his body against hers, the familiar scent of him, the warmth she had missed so much.

"I missed you so much," she whispered against his chest.

"I missed you too," Nikita replied, his voice filled with emotion. He pulled back slightly to look at her, his hand cupping her cheek. "It feels so good to be home."

Lily smiled up at him, her eyes shining with tears of happiness. "It feels so good to have you home."

After a long moment, Nikita turned to the man standing a few feet away, who was watching them with an amused grin. "Lily, I want you to meet someone," Nikita said, his tone light. "This is James. We met during the deployment, and we've become pretty good friends."

James stepped forward, extending his hand with a friendly smile. "Nice to meet you, Lily. Nikita's told me a lot about you."

Lily shook his hand, returning the smile. "It's nice to meet you too, James. Any friend of Nikita's is a friend of mine."

James chuckled. "Thanks, I appreciate that. I hope you don't mind me tagging along for a bit. Nikita insisted that I come meet you before I head back home."

"Of course, you're more than welcome," Lily replied, her earlier surprise melting away. "I'm glad you could come. I've heard that deployment can be pretty tough, so it's nice to know that Nikita had a friend with him."

James nodded, his expression turning more serious. "Yeah, it's not easy, but having someone to talk to makes a big difference. Nikita and I looked out for each other."

Lily looked at Nikita, her heart swelling with gratitude. "I'm glad you had each other."

Nikita smiled at her, his eyes filled with warmth. "It made a world of difference, knowing I had someone I could rely on. And now that we're both back, I thought it'd be nice for James to join us for dinner. I didn't want to wait any longer to see you, but I also didn't want to leave my friend hanging."

"Dinner sounds perfect," Lily said, gesturing for them to come inside. "I've got everything ready. Come on in and make yourselves at home."

As they entered the apartment, Lily couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. She had been so focused on Nikita's return, imagining their reunion as an intimate, private moment, that the idea of sharing it with someone else hadn't crossed her mind. But as she watched Nikita and James interact, their camaraderie evident in their easy banter, she realized that this unexpected turn of events wasn't a bad thing. In fact, it felt right.

James' presence was a reminder of the reality of Nikita's life—a life that was shared with others who understood the unique challenges of serving in the military. It also made her realize that, while she and Nikita were building their own life together, they were also part of a larger community, one that was defined by shared experiences and deep bonds of friendship.

As they sat down to dinner, the conversation flowed easily. James was full of stories from the deployment, some humorous, some serious, and Lily found herself laughing along with the two men as they recounted their adventures. She could see the ease with which Nikita and James interacted, the trust and mutual respect that had been forged in challenging circumstances.

After dinner, they moved to the living room, where James surprised them both by pulling out a guitar from his bag. "I figured I'd bring this along," he said with a grin. "Thought we could have a little music to go with the reunion."

Lily's eyes lit up. "You play?"

"Yeah, I like to strum a few chords here and there," James replied modestly as he tuned the guitar. "Nikita's heard me play a few times. It's nothing fancy, but it helps pass the time."

Nikita leaned back on the couch, a contented smile on his face. "James is being modest. He's actually really good."

James shrugged with a smile, then began to play. The soft, melodic sound of the guitar filled the room, adding a layer of warmth to the evening. Lily leaned against Nikita, feeling a sense of peace and contentment wash over her.

As the music played, she realized how much she appreciated this unexpected addition to their evening. James' presence, his stories, and his music had brought something special to the night—a reminder that life was full of surprises, and that sometimes, the unplanned moments were the ones that left the deepest impact.

When the evening began to wind down, James stood up, slinging the guitar over his shoulder. "I should probably head out and let you two have some time alone. Thanks for having me over, Lily. It's been a real pleasure."

Lily stood as well, smiling warmly at him. "Thank you for coming, James. It was really nice to meet you, and you're welcome here anytime."

Nikita walked James to the door, clapping him on the shoulder. "Take care, man. We'll catch up soon."

"You too, Nikita. And take care of this one," James said with a wink, nodding toward Lily. "She's a keeper."

Nikita grinned. "I know."

With that, James left, leaving Lily and Nikita alone in the quiet apartment. For a moment, they stood there in silence, simply enjoying the presence of one another.

Lily turned to Nikita, her smile soft and full of love. "I wasn't expecting tonight to go the way it did, but I'm really glad it did. It was nice to meet James and to see that you had someone like him with you."

Nikita nodded, pulling her close. "Yeah, I'm glad too. James is a good guy, and I wanted you to meet him. But now that it's just us..."

He leaned down and kissed her, a slow, lingering kiss that spoke of everything he had missed during their time apart. When they finally pulled back, Nikita rested his forehead against hers.

"I'm so happy to be home, Lily. Being away made me realize just how much I need you in my life."

Lily's eyes welled up with tears, but they were tears of happiness. "I need you too, Nikita. And now that you're home, we can make up for lost time."

Nikita smiled, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "I plan to. Starting right now."

They spent the rest of the night wrapped up in each other, talking, laughing, and simply being together. The challenges of the past weeks melted away, replaced by the joy of being reunited with the person they loved most.

As they drifted off to sleep, Lily couldn't help but feel grateful—not just for Nikita's safe return, but for the unexpected moments that had made their reunion even more special.
