Chapter 2:

The following day dawned bright and clear, but the sunshine streaming through the windows did little to dispel the nervous energy swirling within Azzi Fudd. She had spent most of the night replaying her conversation with Caroline, the words echoing in her mind like a broken record. Despite Caroline's reassurances, Azzi couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty that had settled in the pit of her stomach.

In Paige's room, the atmosphere was similarly charged. The previous night's conversation with Nika and KK had left Paige feeling more vulnerable than she had in a long time. Confessing her feelings for Azzi, even to her closest friends, had been a step she wasn't sure she was ready for. Now, the weight of those unspoken words between her and Azzi hung heavy in the air.

By mid-afternoon, the tension in the dorm was palpable. Nika and KK had gone out to run errands, leaving Paige and Azzi alone in the shared space. It wasn't the first time they had been alone together, but today felt different—more intense, more charged with unspoken emotions.

Azzi was in the living room, curled up on the couch with a book she wasn't really reading. Her eyes kept flicking toward Paige's door, wondering if she should go in and talk to her, but the thought of what that conversation might lead to made her heart race with both excitement and fear.

Meanwhile, in her room, Paige was pacing. The walls seemed to be closing in on her, the silence almost deafening. She had been overthinking everything since waking up—what she should say, how she should say it, and most of all, what Azzi's reaction would be. The fear of rejection, of ruining their friendship, loomed over her like a dark cloud.

Finally, unable to take the uncertainty any longer, Paige steeled herself and stepped out of her room. The sight of Azzi on the couch, looking so peaceful and yet so distant, made her heart skip a beat. She hesitated for a moment, gathering her thoughts before walking over and sitting down beside her.

"Hey," Paige said, her voice soft but laced with nervousness.

Azzi looked up from her book, her heart fluttering at the sight of Paige so close. "Hey," she replied, setting the book aside. "How's it going?"

Paige shrugged, trying to appear casual even as her mind raced. "I've been better, I guess. I just... I've been thinking a lot."

Azzi's breath caught in her throat. She had been dreading this conversation, but now that it was happening, she couldn't back down. "Me too," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

Paige looked down at her hands, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of her hoodie. "I feel like there's something between us," she said slowly, the words heavy with meaning. "Something we've been avoiding for a while."

Azzi's heart pounded in her chest. There it was—the moment she had been both anticipating and fearing. "I know," she said softly. "I feel it too."

The admission hung in the air between them, thick with emotion. Paige turned to look at Azzi, her blue eyes filled with a mixture of hope and fear. "What do we do about it?"

Azzi took a deep breath, the decision already made in her heart even if her mind was still catching up. "I think we should talk about it. Be honest with each other, no more holding back."

Paige nodded, relief and anxiety battling for dominance inside her. "I'm scared, Azzi. I don't want to mess this up. I don't want to lose you."

"You won't," Azzi reassured her, reaching out to take Paige's hand in hers. The contact sent a jolt of electricity through both of them, the simple touch charged with years of unspoken feelings. "We've always been honest with each other, right? This shouldn't be any different."

Paige squeezed Azzi's hand, drawing strength from the connection. "You're right. It's just... I've never felt this way before. Not with anyone."

Azzi's heart swelled at the confession, her own feelings mirrored in Paige's words. "Neither have I," she admitted. "But I think that's what makes this so special."
