I sat up in the back seat as I watched a massive black werewolf stalk my kidnapper like its prey. I was frozen to the spot as I watched the man who had just shoved me into the car transform into a dark brown werewolf with white streaks.

It was quite an unbelievable sight to take in and I stared in a mixture of awe and fear. If I hadn't already known about werwolves, I would have been convinced I was hallucinating.

I grimaced as pain throbbed in my face and my side where I had fallen. I itched across the backseat to the other door so I could get away while the two werewolves faced off, each movement rippling pain through me. This could be my only chance to escape.

I shoved the door open and slid slowly trying to keep my exit as quiet was possible as the two werewolves circled each other. It was only when I stood beside the car and looked back did I see a pack of werewolves watching them. The one suddenly saw me and I froze. Would they attack me as well? There was no way I could out run a wild animal, even if I wasn't injured.

I itched away from the car slowly to try and gauge if they were going to come after me. I held my breath when the one that had its eyes fixed me started to follow me slowly.

Hurriedly I crossed the street, with my hand to my side as I tried to move as quickly as possible. I grimaced as my face throbbed. The dizziness hit and I stopped for long enough to hear the snarling but I couldn't look back. My only thought was escape. Adrenaline pumped through me as I reached the door to my motel room. I looked over my shoulder to see the werewolf follow me, but not in a threatening way. Breathlessly, I opened the door and shut it behind me.

I locked the door and backed away from it. There was a table with a tv on it so I pushed it in front of the door, hoping that would slow it down.

I trembled but I refused to fall to apart. If I was going to survive this I needed to keep my head. It felt like the alcohol had worn off and the pain was intensifying.

But the most important thing was to get out of there before any one else came looking for me. I checked through a slit in the curtain to see the werwolf who had followed me was seated with its back to my door. It looked like it was guarding my door, my main exit out of the room.

I went to straight to the only other way out of the room, the bathroom window. It was small but I knew with some squirming I could make it through. I had to, there was no other option. There was no way I was going to stay in the room and hope for the best outcome.

First, I climbed onto the toilet and I grunted as I opened the window. I doubt anyone had ever tried to open it before. There was no time for hesitation. I pulled myself through it, despite the pain, grimacing through every movement. I dropped into the grass and only gave myself a moment before I got to my feet.

Most people might have given up but I would not. No matter how hard my life had gotten, no matter what happened, I never gave up. It wasn't who I was. I kept going, even when it felt impossible.

The distant sound of growling and fighting continued but all I concentrated on was putting one foot in front of the other to get away from the motel as fast as I could. I feared another werewolf would spot me and then everything I had done would be for nothing.

The town was small and there weren't a lot of places to hide so I walked down the street trying to open the doors as I hurried from one car to another. I felt winded and sore. I took a moment to check the side I had fallen on and it was already bruising. Shit.

My face throbbed but my adrenaline was pushing me forward and the fear that I wouldn't get out of this situation no matter what I tried. There was no time to think about what the bounty hunter had told me. The only thing that was forefront in my mind was escape.

I nearly cried out with relief when a car door did open. It was a dark blue truck. I slid into the driver's seat. The first place I checked was the visor. Keys dropped into my lap. I grabbed them and started the truck.

Without even considering where I was going, or having any plan other than getting as far away as possible I pulled into the street but in front of me in the middle of the street stood the werewolf who had followed me to the motel. I slammed on the brakes as I contemplated my situation.

"Come on. Move," I yelled but the animal refused to move, blocking off my escape.

I revved the gas hoping that would scare it off but the animal didn't budge.

"Damn it!" I was a lot of things but I drew the line at hurting an animal, even a werewolf.

The only other option I had was to go in the opposite direction. I shifted the car into reverse and looked back to see a row of werewolves approaching.

This was the worst possible scenario. I was stuck. I shut the car off and slid out of it. Limping as I tried to get away.

The fear pushed me forward but I tripped. The fall jolted my side and cried out. I tried to get to my feet again but the pain was too intense. Tears of pain blurred my eyes as I turned in time to see the werewolves approach. There was no sign of the werewolf of the bounty hunter. Had they killed him?

Was this the end? Would this be how my life came to an end? Before it could even get started, just when I had gained my freedom and control over my life.

The black werewolf who had attacked the bounty hunter approached me as the others circled around me.

"Please," I murmured. I tried to move back but the pain was too much. I cried out.

Then in place of the werewolf stood Maverick.

My mind was still reeling as he jogged over to me. I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing.

"Are you hurt?" he asked.

The fear melted away with his presence. I wasn't going to die today.

I stared at him, still not quite believing that he was here. As my mind ticked over the other werewolves transformed into people. And I realized the werewolf who had been guarding my motel door was Sebastian.

"I..." I was speechless.

He touched my face, his fingers gently prodded my cheek. I grimaced at the slight pain. He swore, his anger visible.

"My side," I murmured. That hurt the most.

He slowly lifted my shirt. His features tensed as he took in the dark bruising. "He did this to you."

I nodded.

Slowly, he pressed his fingers along my side. When he reached a little further up, a sudden spasm of pain made me cry out.

"I think you've hurt a rib, maybe two. We wont know until we get you back to the compound," he said. His voice hard.

My eyes found his but his were cold.

"Let's get you out of here." He lifted me to my feet. I swayed.

"I'm going to carry you," he said before he lifted me into his arms like I weighed nothing. I gritted my teeth through the pain. I closed my eyes.

He put me into the back seat of a truck. Sebastian got in the passenger side in the front as I breathed through the pain.

Maverick got into the driver's side. I didn't see the others.

There was no words spoken between them but then I remembered they were able to speak through their minds and I wondered for a moment what was being said.

I wasn't thinking about the reasons I had run away, I wasn't thinking about the bounty hunter that had tried to kidnap. Not even thoughts of how Maverick had rescued me and how it was possible he had found me. All I could think about was the pain I was in. Every breath, every moment I was in agony.

"Not too much longer," Maverick assured me but I didn't care.

I closed my eyes, tears seeped down my cheeks as I held on.
