Marcus tiredly walked down the long daunting halls of the ark, the never ending labyrinth of metal grey walls. His eyes growing heavier and heavier by the minute. The only thing forcing them open was the knowledge that he would be home soon. Home to the only thing that kept him going in this cold world, his family.
As he turned the corner to the familiar hallway the bloodcurdling sounds of a baby screaming filled his ears. He chuckled to himself, his young daughter, Aria, was only 11 months old, and my did she have a set of lungs on her.
He pushed open the heavy metal door, unexpectedly, the room was dark, the only form of light coming from the moon window across the room. Leaving an eerie light grey sheen over the room. As he cracked the door open more and more light began to pour into the room from the fluorescent hallway lights. The sounds of Aria's screams becoming louder as he pushed into the room.
Marcus' eyes instantly dropped to the droplets of blood at his feet, heart beating quicker at the sight of the crimson staining the floor. His breath hitched in his throat as he allowed his eyes to follow the trail of blood to a pool of blood.
In that moment, his entire life changed forever. He blinked and nothing would ever be the same again.
There she laid, her long brown hair draped over her face, ends becoming soaked in the crimson puddle.
"Lillian??" Marcus said barely above a whisper dropping his bag from his hands, it hitting the floor with a thud.
He walked forward slowly, his heart pounding heavily against his ribcage. He dropped to his knees, cautiously placed a hand on her shoulder, turning her body towards him. Tears stung in his eyes as he grasped her blood soaked sleeve.
A sob left his lips as her head rolled towards him lifelessly. Her eyes locked open, her face expressionless and pale. He grabbed her face shaking her. His heart sank deeper into his stomach as she gave no response.
"Lillian oh god! What have you done?"
Tears started to cloud his vision as he screamed. He knew that she was depressed, drained because of the baby, but he never thought it would come to this. He sobbed, his hands shaking at the scene before him.
"Help!"
"Somebody help please!" He screamed, his vocal cords turning raw.
Marcus crept forward pulling Lillians body to his chest, holding her close to his body.
"Help me please!"
....
"Which planet is that daddy?" Aria asked inquisitively. Her big brown eyes focused on the stars that littered the sky. Her small frame pushed up against the moon window as she pressed her forehead against the cold glass.
"That my love is Saturn," Marcus said crouching down so he was level with the young girl, studying her expression as she smiled at the sky.
"Saturn" She repeated back to her father, a smile stretching across her face.
"I think it's your bedtime little one," he said softly as he looked down at his watch.
"No Daddy I want to explore more!" she groaned as he picked her up. Her eyes stayed trained on the window. Watching the stars burning in the sea of darkness.
Marcus chuckles "We can play Star Explorer tomorrow, you need to get your rest," he said, placing a gentle hand on the back of her head.
Marcus softly placed her on the bed, pulling the covers over her before laying a gentle kiss on her forehead.
