They were all in the farmhouse styled kitchen of a Spanish English home in Crystal Springs, Florida. Lorelei, Mel, Ellie, Jordan, and Sarah were baking heart shaped cookies topped with pink icing. Or trying to at least.
Lorelei grabbed a cookie sheet from a cabinet below the linen colored wooden counters. Everyone was giggling from a previous joke that had been said. She set the pan on top of the stove top and left it there to make her way to a half filled bowl with white powder with sweet mixtures such as sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and such and began to whisk it lightly.
"Wait, wait so you broke up with "Baseball" for a ginger?", Lorelei asked, smiling and holding back a snort, knowing that they would laugh at it if she did let it out.
"No, no, no. You got it mixed it up. Well, kind of but "Baseball broke up with me like, a year ago." Ellie claimed and not finishing her story.
Mel stood by Lorelei with her back towards the counter tops. She parted her lips as she would say something.
"Do you need me do anything though? I can make the Icing." Melissa asked, setting both of her hands on the counter behind her.
"No, no, we can do that after the cookies bake. It won't take too long to make." Lorelei explained. Her hands stopped moving in a circular motion from whisking and set the bowl aside.
"Mind handing me that egg beside you, Mel?" Lorelei asked her.
"Oh, and Sarah, since you're closest to the fridge, grab the milk please." She asked and thanked afterwards.
Mel set the fragile, light brown colored egg next to Lorelei's jeweled hand with her many rings on her fingers, her droopy bracelets making a 'clink' noise when she would set them down on the epoxy wood counter tops.
Sarah closed the fridge door, walking a few steps to hand the jug of whole milk to Lorelei's hand that was reaching out to it.
"Thanks, Sar'" She obliged, and to Mel as well.
Lorelei cracked the egg on the rim of the bowl with her right hand and let the gooey insides drop inside and on the flour, making a yolk shaped imprint in the flour. She threw the shell into a compost bowl beside her, next to the paper towels and wiped that same hand on her small, white apron she had tied around her waist.
She added just a drop of the whole milk and carefully steadied it back onto the counter.
"Did the recipe call for milk, Lore'?" Mel asked, picking up Lorelei's phone with the iced sugar cookie recipe.
Lorelei smirked, "No..."
"You got to experiment a little." She continued with a smile on her face, making a dimple appear on her left cheek. She took her phone back from Mel's hands and looked over it herself.
Setting the phone down quickly and brought the bowl of ingredients to the sink to pour in a teaspoon of water.
Jordan and Sarah stood by the stove while Ellie made her way to grab the dirty whisk Lorelei had just set down that she used to mix.
"Can I?" Ellie asked, holding it up near her face, and pleading to whisk the water into the mixture as Lorelei shut off the tap and started to bring the bowl back to where she originally had it before she moved it.
Raising her left eyebrow and handed the bowl to Ellie as she took it from Lorelei's hand.
Ellie set the bowl down and began to whisk the mixture quite fast.
"Oh my gosh Ellie it's not going to run away from you!" Jordan snorted and covering her mouth with her hand while she had a good laugh that made it's way to Sarah, who also started laughing with her.
Lorelei checked on the oven that was preheating.
"What's the temperature supposed to be?" Mel worriedly asked, getting up to grab a oven mitt for her.
"Recipe said something like 375 degrees." Lorelei said, shutting the oven door with the tips of her fingers. Letting go after it shut, wincing and flailing her hand in the air to cool her fingertips.
After she cooled off her hand, she quickly grabbed the cookie sheet from the top of the stove top and set it on the counters.
"The mixture is sooo fun to handle," Ellie cheered while making heart shapes out of the cookie mixture that was more firm then gooey now.
Mel had just finished putting on a sheet of wax paper on the pan for Ellie to set the uncooked cookies on the pan.
After all the cookies were sitting on the cookie sheet, Lorelei had put on the oven mitt that Mel had grabbed for her and proceeded to stick the pan onto the first rack inside the oven and closed it up.
Taking off the mitt now, and checking her phone for how long to wait for them to bake. The recipe called for the cookies to be watched carefully for 6-8 minutes since they were so small, they wouldn't take long to cook all the way through.

The cookies were chilled. The icing was all made up and was a light baby pink color. Jordan laid out the cookies on a metal rack on top of the counters and each one of the girls filled the tops of each cookie with a nice, cool colored icing.
When they were done, they all grabbed one and held it close to they're mouths as Sarah counted down.
"One..."
"Two..."
Three..."
They all took a bite. Some from the bottom of the heart, or even the corners of it.
"Oh my god. It's disgusting!" Ellie blurted out and also laughing, making her words not able to be heard well.
"What?" Mel looked over at her with her eyebrows raised.
"You're crazy! I think their good-" Mel took another bite. Rolling her eyes back from the sweetness overload she just got.
Lorelei finished hers and looked up towards all of them.
"No, I agree with Ellie. That was actually gross," She wiped the corners of her mouth with her thumb.
"Right!?" Ellie exclaimed.
"Okay, okay. I dare you to eat another one. But all of it, Ellie!" Sarah giggled, also wiping the corners of her mouth to rid of the icing.
"What? No! Nuh uh, Nope." Ellie crossed her arms.
Lorelei smiled and looked towards Melissa who was already looking at her with a soft, gently smile on her face.
