7:38 AMThe sun rose up that morning in a haze. The clouds covered the sky and barely let the light in through her windows above her bed. Her long dark hair was matted from sleeping so roughly the night before- most likely to be nightmares. Her vision blurry, she stretched her arms out over her head and let out a soft groan. Her left arm reached over to a bedside table and grabbed her clear framed glasses and set them on her face.
The girl sat up and kicked her feet out of the mound of blankets sitting on top of her. She stood up quickly and her black, baggy t-shirt with a Stranger Things logo on it, fell down to her knees. Both of her knees popped with a satisfying crack while she walked over to her small vanity up near her bedroom door and grabbed a simple black claw clip. She grabbed her black hair and bundled it up inside the clip and had it grab onto the back of her head.
She could smell the freshly cooked bacon wafting in the air that her father was cooking on the stove top after she walked outside her bedroom. The scrambled eggs in a large skillet popping small bubbles in the raw egg white as it sizzled on the hot pan.
"Mhmm.. that smells so amazing.." The twelve year old girl said, sniffing the smells of breakfast around her. Her father smiled at her.
"Good morning, Mel', it'll be ready in a minute. The bacon needs a few more seconds." Her father told her.
Melissa smiled back and decided to sit down at the counter where her father was cooking from.
"There's pancakes too, love. Grab some from the toaster oven." Her father told her. Melissa licked her lips, "Mhmmm, thanks Dad!"
"Of course. Actually, here." Her father said, making his way to the toaster oven and handing it to her so she doesn't have to get up.
Melissa sat back down, taking the plate from his hands and setting it on the counter next to her plate. She picked up her fork and picked up two slices of pancakes. Melissa sat down her fork and looked around the counter place for maple syrup- she usually preferred store bought syrup instead of the kind made from up north- not made with chemicals in a factory.
Without looking at the label she picked it up. Twisting off the cap and caught a glimpse of the label. Melisa froze.
"Maine Pure Maple Syrup"
Her smile faded. She was reminded of her best friend- Lorelei. She was reminded of the times she had and would often think to herself if she could ever see her again.
What would the future hold for them two. Melissa, looking down at the bottle of maple syrup.

"When I got the text, I cried so loudly and so much because I immediately felt so much pain in my body, pouring out.
I covered my face with the top of my shirt as if somehow that could protect me.."
