A month passed away in a blink of an eye. My relationship with Zayan did not improve a bit. Neither he talked to me nor I cared to talk to him.
I avoided him the most, engaging in conversations only in front of the family. On the other hand my relationship with his family improved a lot. It was as if we all were a family together.
Today I woke up at 6:00 and went straight to shower. After showering I applied my skincare and wore a pink chikankari suit.
I then flicked my hair with a towel to dry them. Applying my lipgloss and mascara, I went downstairs. As I went downstairs I saw Ammi sitting on the couch. I walked over to her.
“Assalamualaikum Ammi”, I greeted her.
“Walaikumsalam”, she greeted back.
“ You're up early today?”, I asked.
“Just wanted to enjoy my time with my daughter”, she said while looking at me. I smiled and she told her to follow her to the kitchen.
We both then made breakfast while talking and enjoying our time. I then set the dining table with the dishes we made. Today's breakfast was a bit fancy. We made aloo ke parathe, bhature, chole, halwa, orange juice, tea and coffee.
Everybody came and sat in their designated seats. I sat beside Mariam. I fiddled with my fingers as I had to talk about something to Abbu.
I wanted to join my work as I was free and I wanted to go back as I had taken a leave suddenly. I wanted to talk with Zayan about this matter but I left thinking he'll oppose it.
I cleared my throat while gaining everyone's attention.
I was about to say something but stopped in between as I was nervous. I contemplated if I should talk to them or not.
“Aira do you want to say something?”Abbu asked.
I hummed and tried to say something but then again stopped in between.
“You can speak, we are family”, Chachu said.
“ Actually I was thinking of going back to my routine… I mean I wanted to rejoin my work. So I wanted to ask you all the permission for it”, I said while fumbling in nervousness.
"Well, now even the girls of the house will start going out to work.”, Chachi immediately said.
I looked down, not being able to see her eyes. I thought to myself if their family was conservative. I blamed myself for even talking about going to work.
“ Layla, it is not a big deal for even girls to go out and work. It is totally understandable. If boys can work then so do girls”, Chachu said.
“But our Sofia never wanted to work out”, Chachi replied.
“ Sofia never studied well. How could she go out and work?”, Chachu said sternly.
I felt bad about starting a conflict. I blamed myself.
