Rapunzel didn't know what to do. She didn't want to learn dark magic, she wasn't evil. But the witch seemed to be sure she was. She wasn't sure how far the witch would go to make her practice magic, for all she knew, the witch might starve her just for a whiff of Magic. Rapunzel knew she wouldn't last long without food. She shakily went over to the corner of the room she never went to. There was only one thing in that corner, a stack of old black books. She reached for one. She went over to her bed and began to read it. It was full of terrible spells, like how to make a poison from raspberries, how to cook a child, how to control animals. But, there was one that caught her eye. How to take the powers of another witch away for up to an hour. If she could manage this, then she might be able to get away from the witch. But Rapunzel didn't even know if she'd be good at magic. The witch could just be delusional. Though, it wouldn't hurt to try. Rapunzel spent hours on the spell, but she had no way of knowing whether or not she was doing it right. There were no magical beings in her rooms, so for all she knew, when the witch came she'd just make a fool of herself. But she knew she had to try. But where would she go? She knew nothing about the world outside her tower. And then she realized, surely the witch could find her! She'd only have no magic for an hour, and how far could she get in an hour? Rapunzel tore through all of the books for a spell to take the witch's power forever, but no such spell existed. She then thought maybe she could just take her power away again when the witch found her, but what kind of life was that? To have to fight off a witch every hour? And not to mention that the witch would be prepared for it, while she would not. The witch was far more powerful than her. There was no way she could pull this off all on her own. She would fail, and her life would become even worse. Rapunzel sighed as she put the books away. She was doomed to be stuck forever. It was getting dark, so Rapunzel decided she'd better eat. Rapunzel had two ways to get food. The witch would bring her a tub with bread an water. But Rapunzel also had a plate that refiled itself three times a day. It was always the same. Eggs for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, and some sort of potatoes, today it was mashed. She picked at her bread gloomily. Finally, it was so dark she could hardly see. She put her plate in her dresser, so as to clean it. She got into bed, and, as the last light of day sunk beneath the lake, Rapunzel saw some thing she'd never seen before. Next to the magic books, was what appeared to be a door.
