"Come on we gotta go now," Lezlie said as Ever and her helped push Fig into the passenger seat. He was coming in and out of reality when he pulled a cigarette out of his pocket and tried lighting it as he passed back out.

"smoking'll kill ya." Ethan giggled as Seth smacked him in the back of his head, I laughed at that.

I piled in with Seth and Ethan in the back seat, Emily and Ever got in the middle row, and Ari, Chase, and Mark got in the front. Lezlie drove because how would we get to 'the Edge Rift' without knowing where it is? I didn't fully comprehend that Seth was the son of Zeus. The god of gods. The god of the sky. My boyfriend was the son of one of the strongest gods alive. That's pretty cool. Also, it's kind of wild to think about.

Nobody was sure what to think. Chase who was the son of Hephaestus. Mark the son of Poseidon. We now knew three of our powers. Well, technically five, Fig the son of Hermes, and Lezlie the daughter of Athena. That meant Ever, Ethan, Emily, Ari, and I without knowing who our godparents were. That meant between the five of us, we had Boreas, Phanes, Erebus, Theia, and Hades. I wasn't all too sure of how to figure that out but hey, the journey was going to be worth it.

As we were about to leave, we saw Lezlie's dad standing in the doorway of the garage. Lezlie hopped out and was handed a bag that had a lot of drinks and snacks in it. She hugged him tight and hopped in the van. We backed out and left, as I looked out of the back of the van I saw her dad wiping his eyes of tears. Watching your daughter leave can't be easy, especially when you know she's a demigod and you could be met with your demise very easily. That's scary to think about.

"Lezlie, can you explain the Edge Rift a little bit better to us?" Ari said inching forward on his bench.

"The Edge Rift is not to be taken lightly, kids," Fig said, coughing, then passing right back out.

"The Edge Rift is where you go to find the truth, the only bad part is that the Edge Rift is a world of small fragments, that lead to creating islands. Only one person can see what is needed, and that for us is how to defeat Gornid. Which is why it's so important to defeat the guardian at the time. We made this plan as a final push. A desperate act. Going into the Rift is arguably more dangerous than fighting the guardian. Islands are separated by floating artifacts that move, rotate, and change where they are." She had become very serious when she was speaking on this.

"How do we know when we get there?" Seth asked.

"The road stops, it begins breaking and the ground changes color. The sky feels more like it's looking at you instead of a beautiful day, and finally, a purple portal will be at the end of the road. Behind the guardian of the Rift." Lezlie answered.

"How far are we?" Chase asked rapidly.

"It shouldn't be too much further. It's here in California. About two and a half hours from here." She looked around like she wanted another question to be asked, but it wasn't.

Two and a half hours. That's a long time. I didn't fully realize how exhausted I had been. I decided to close my eyes. The rest I wanted I was hopefully going to get. I laid my head on Seth's shoulder and as I did he leaned his head on mine. Within a few minutes, I was out hard. As was he.

I woke up to the van slamming the brakes and flipping over what felt like four times. I looked around and everyone was out of the van but me. Ever was crouched over Ethan while Chase and Seth stood their ground against some sort of monster. Fig was on the ground with Lezlie. Ari was trying to get to his feet. Emily was over Mark crying. What happened?

"Macie's still in the van!" Seth shouted.

"Go get her! I got this!" Chase shouted back as he threw fire at the monster but it had little effect.
