THE DUGRAYS were originally a family of 6, Isabella and Tristan being the children, and then their 2 parents Lindsay and Steve, and Steve's parents.
However, one night when the twins were 13, Steve and Lindsay had a huge fight about Steve's parents being 'too involved' in the twins' life and so Steve and his parents moved to a smaller town in Connecticut.
Isabella and Tristan got used to being without a father pretty quickly, as their mother went through boyfriends and boyfriends. One boyfriend, that was isabella and tristan's favourite, showed them what fatherly love felt like.
The twins were 14 when Lindsay came home with her boyfriend, and they would usually stay in their own rooms when one of her boyfriends would be over, and he wanted to get to know the children. Unlike all her other boyfriends, this one spent time with the children as well as Lindsay.

The 14 year old twins had just came back from school, and were met with the sight of their mother's boyfriend waiting at the door for them.
Isabella dropped her bags and hugged him, lindsay and this boyfriend had been together for 6 months and they had basically become a family,
Tristan hugged their 'step-father' and they went into the living room,
"So, kids how was school?"
"You will never guess what happened! I was walking into school, dad! And this girl- Crap! I'm sorry i shouldn't have called you dad!" Isabella said panicking as she clasped her mouth shut.
Her stepfather chuckled and sat next to her,
"It's okay, you kids can call me dad if you like."
Isabella nervously bit her lip and fiddled with her finger, unaware that her stepfather understood what she was thinking,
"I promise you both, i will not leave you. I'm here to stay and nobody can get rid of me" Their stepfather said, holding both of their hands.

Isabella always thought of him, he left a year after he made that promise and she would never forgive him for that. He healed her little heart and shattered it into little pieces, her brother had to pick up all the little pieces.
Tristan, however, wasn't as close with their stepfather as Isabella was. He was the smarter sibling, although younger by 12 minutes, and he knew not to get attached. His sister got attached and he had to see her and his mother be broken.
After that one particular event, Lindsay became out-of-control. Some days, she forgot to feed her kids. She was drunk all the time, and didn't give a fuck about her children.
Isabella and Tristan got used to fending for themselves, they both attended chilton and were very close. Until their mother's condition got even worse, she started to take her anger out on her children, and shattered the twins relationship.
