Ed's POV

Suddenly, the air grew so still that I could hear my own breathing echoing in the silence.

"Ssssssss..."

I turned around slowly, and there it was—an enormous black snake, at least four meters long, slithering its way down from this  tree . Its eyes, glowing eerily in the dim light, were the only reason I could even see it. As it inched closer, my heart pounded in my chest. I just hoped the barrier thqt Bobo had set up would hold long enough for him to get here.

When the snake was only a meter away, I braced myself for an attack. But instead of striking, it simply stopped and stared at me with what I could only describe as... curiosity?

"Interestingssssss," it hissed.

What did it say? I thought, barely daring to breathe.

"My, my, ssssss, who would have thought I'd meet another guest in this lifetime of mine, ssssss."

I was stunned. It actually spoke! But strangely enough, I didn't sense any malice from it—at least, not yet.

"Who are you, Mr. Snake?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

"Oh, what a polite little fellow, I'm the Guardian of the Gate, ssss."

"The gate?" I echoed, confused.

"Yessss, the one that brought you here—this world's gate, at least."

"There's a guardian for this gate?" I asked, even more surprised. I had never heard of such a thing in any of my missions.

"Well, ssssss, this world is a bit special, that's why... Mmm, ssssss, your soul is really bright, ssssss, brighter than that gorilla's from thousands of years ago."

While the snake continued to talk, my mind raced. What was going on? Could this be the reason for the error I'd encountered?

"Ssssss, and a curious one, too. And by the way, you've been calling me 'Mr.'—I'm female, ssssss."

"Oh! I'm sorry, madam, I didn't know," I quickly apologized, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"Ssss, it's okay. You really are a polite little boy. That gorilla before kept screaming when he came to this world—he was terrified, sssss," she giggled, a surprisingly light sound.

"Gorilla?" I asked, puzzled.

"Yes, the one who came here using the same gate in the past, ssssss."

Then it hit me—I hadn't spoken aloud just now, or before. How could it have answered me? Did it... read my mind?

"Sssss, don't be afraid, my dear," the snake hissed, almost reassuringly. "It's just a little trick I picked up after living all this time in this world, ssssss."

oh ok,So someone completed their missions before me, and their vocational world was this one too?

"Oh, ssssss, no, no. He came for a mission, not a vacation. Something about an ML or whatever, sssss."

As I tried to process this strange new information, the snake continued.

"He was an idiot who kept calling himself a hero, a stupid fellow with no sense of sarcasm, ssssss. Staying with him was a nightmare, ssss."

I couldn't help it. My initial fear and apprehension toward this creature completely melted away, and I found myself laughing.Any lingering fear I had vanished, replaced by a strange sense of familiarity. The snake's first impression had completely changed, especially since it hadn't stopped talking about this mysterious person from its past. Even though it kept complaining and criticizing, it felt less like resentment and more like the way someone would speak about an old friend—someone they hadn't seen in ages but still held close to their heart.

"Look at the time, ssss. Your help is here."

I turned around and saw the white fox, leading a group of eight people. The moment they saw the snake, they immediately formed a battle stance, ready for a fight.

Captain Theodore Sun Helios's POV

I still couldn't believe it. Here I was, Theodore Sun Helios, willingly following a strange creature deep into the heart of the Forbidden Forest, even risking the safety of my team.

"Captain, are you sure about following this... monster?" Fill asked, casting a wary glance at the fox, which turned to look at him before continuing to lead us forward.

"Do you think it's leading us into a trap?" Elly, our doctor and the only woman on the team, asked with concern.

"I don't think so," I replied, trying to sound convincing, though doubt lingered in the back of my mind.

"I also don't sense any malicious intent," Mac added, his eyes narrowing in thought. "It seems more like it's asking for our help."

We followed the fox for what felt like an hour, enduring nonstop complaints from the others. But none of us were willing to turn back. We were too curious, too determined to find out what it wanted. Maybe this was the solution to our mission.

Suddenly, a cave entrance came into view, and the little fox darted inside, pausing just long enough for us to follow. We hurried after it through a long, narrow tunnel, our nerves taut with anticipation.

At the end of the tunnel, we emerged into a vast cave. In the center stood an enormous tree, glowing with vibrant light. The sight left us speechless.

Then, the fox started growling, as if ready to fight.

"C-Captain, what's that?" Fill stammered, pointing at the tree.

I had been so mesmerized by the tree that I hadn't noticed at first. But when I looked again, I saw it. Was that... a child under the tree?

"A baby?" I whispered in disbelief.

"I don't think that's all," Dan, who had been silent throughout the mission, suddenly spoke up. We had all wondered if he was mute. "There's a monster in that tree."

Just as he finished speaking, I looked closer and saw it—a massive black python, coiled around the tree, its eyes fixed on the child who was giggling beneath it. The moment the snake noticed us, it shifted its gaze, locking onto our group.

Without hesitation, we fell into formation, ready for battle. But deep down, we all knew the truth—this was a fight we couldn't possibly win.
