I sat at a table alone at lunch as always and contemplated my day so far. I had just agreed to go on a date with Jake Barnett, the guy who bullied my best friend and the guy who was nothing more than an annoying piece of gum that gets stuck to the bottom of your shoe and won't get off. Everything was going fairly normal other than that until Matteo came up to my table.
"Um-Hi Bea do you mind if I sit with you?" He asked with a hopeful smile.
I raised an eyebrow quizzically at this wondering why he wasn't sitting with any other friends from his other classes. Yeah I mean I know that he is new but he has such a nice funny bubbly personality what's not to like?
"I mean yeah sure but why aren't you with any other friends?" I asked curious
"I don't really have any other friends yet. Some guys invited me to a party though." He answered sitting across from me.
"What guys?" I questioned because the only guys I know who throw parties like every other week are not the type of people I see Matteo hanging out with.
"Um-James and his friends." He said avoiding eye contact while rubbing the back of his neck in a sheepish manner.
"What!" I whisper-yelled startling him as I leaned across the table "Why would you do that? Don't you know what jerks they are? What if they hurt you? Idiot."
"I only went because he said you were going!" Mateo replied in hushed tones rushing to his own defence.
"What makes you think that I would go?" I frowned, confused.
"Hey Princess." I turned around to meet the voice coming from behind me. "Party at mine, I will pick you up at nine." And with that he walked away before I could even hit him with a snarky reply.
"Guess we are going to a party then" I sighed, turning back round to face Mateo.
As soon as I was out of school I rushed home to get ready for the party. I ended up choosing a sleeveless blood red velvet cropped shirt with a V neck and a black skirt with a criss cross lace going up the side. I also put on my fancy black boots that go a quarter up my legs with long heels. I was not excited for this party but at least Matteo would be there.
I quickly changed into my black leather jacket and black pants before pulling up my hood and climbing the flight of stairs to the top of my apartment. Once I was at the top I jumped the small gap over to the next building and then the next. The feeling I had when jumping the small distance from rooftop to rooftop was so freeing. The most freeing feeling that I wanted to hold onto for as long as possible.
I stopped on one of the rooftops and sat down, feet dangling over the edge as I started thinking about what was going to happen at the party tonight. I decided that that was future me's problem so I decided to sit and enjoy the view for a few minutes. The skyline was beautiful with the sun setting already as it was getting later into the evening. I had around an hour and a half before James picked me up.
"Hey Beah" I heard the soft voice from behind me and felt a small smile tug it's way onto my face as I turned around to greet Mateo.
"Hey Teo" I smiled weakly at him as he came to sit next to me.
His brows furrowed in confusion "What's wrong B?"
"Nothing just got a lot on my mind" I gave him a tired smile before I felt my face contort to one of joy "How was your first day of school?"
"I mean it wasn't the best but you know...." He trailed off
"What happened?"
"Well I didn't exactly make an friends"
"Why not? You're so lovable."
He chuckled before talking again "Thanks B but apparently not everybody thinks so. One of the kids from the alley, his name's James, goes to my new school and he's in some of my classes. Anyways he was gonna hurt me when this girl who was really nice and pretty told him to back off and then he said that he would leave me alone if she went on a date with him and she agreed! I mean I don't get why she would do that, he's a jerk, she said so herself."
"Maybe she was just being nice?" I just suggested even though I knew that the reason was because the 'nice and pretty' girl didn't want anyone to hurt her best friend.
"Anyways I'm going to this party tonight ....umm James invited me. But I only said yes because Bea, the nice girl from my class is going too!" He defended himself
"That's fine" I chuckled lightly "I'm not going to tell you off for going to a party with the same guys I want you to stay away from." Sarcasm dripping off every word as I rolled my eyes fondly at him.
"Look Beah I'm sorry but I just wanted to have some friends. I mean once they get to know me they might not pick on me anymore."
"Yeah maybe" I smiled before standing up and moving further back onto the roof before getting into a fighting stance.
"Come on. Up you get" I called over to Matteo before he dragged himself up and got into a fighting stance opposite me.
"Good, Just turn your right foot a bit."
"Beah I'm sorry to cut our lessons short but I do have to leave sooner than usual to get to the party."
"Oh right okay. Quick spar and then home?"
"Sure" He agreed before throwing a punch.
