Bea's POV
4 Months later
I was just sitting in class with my air pods on, sketching in my sketchbook alone in the corner as the teacher blabbered about whatever teachers go on about when all of a sudden she was in front of me with her hand practically in my face. I let out an annoyed sigh before I pulled my air pods out and gave them to her with an eye roll.
Five minutes later I had my wire headphones on with my phone blatantly on the table when the teacher interrupted me again but this time with an announcement.
"Class we have a new student joining us here. Would you like to introduce yourself and then sit next to Bea over there?" The teacher said unnaturally sweetly. It was unnerving. I looked up.
"Matteo..." I breathed out but no one heard me.
There in front of me was my best friend. My bestest friend. The only person I could even think of trusting. He was looking around the classroom as if he was looking for someone to smile at him and wave. Make him feel welcome. He was wearing a pale yellow oversized t-shirt and brown cargo with a plain black backpack on his shoulder. He had beautiful hazel eyes and curly brown hair that seemed messy but neat at the same time. After spending some time with him I learned that he was the only one I knew who could pull off the messy but neat hairstyle without even trying. I lifted my hand to wave when I realised there was only one problem. He didn't know me.
"Hi my name's Matteo Alvarez and I just moved to the area. I have been living in England for two years now and I'm half Spanish and half Italian. I used to live in Italy with my Mum and Dad but when my Dad died I moved to Spain with my Mum."
"No one cares loser!" Yelled James the A-class jerk who sometimes hangs out with the kids from the alley who pick on Matteo. James is quite popular in the school but he certainly wasn't at the top of the high school hierarchy.
Matteo looked over to the person who he obviously hadn't seen yet and his face visibly paled as he looked at James clearly recognising him.
The teacher just gave James a look before addressing Matteo "You can go sit next to Beatrice over there." She said all while waving her arm in a bored manner towards me.
Matteo walked over to the seat next to me, put his bag on the carpeted floor and smiled at me before turning to the board to catch whatever the teacher was saying.
Matteo's POV
After class I started packing up as did the girl who sat next to me. She seemed nice enough although she did appear to be quite reserved. She was extremely beautiful though with long slightly wavy black hair pooling down over her shoulders and pale skin that seemed to glow when in contact with the sun. She was dressed in a black crop top with light blue skinny jeans with a few tears in them. She also had on a pair of black headphones though the teacher had told her to take them off two times since I arrived.
As I started to make my way out of the class James roughly grabbed my shirt collar and I felt myself being pushed against the wall. Again.
The teacher had left the classroom and the only other people in the room were me and Beatrice. "Not so tough without your little girlfriend now are you?" He asked before looking at me with a smug smile that made my blood boil. Apparently Beatrice's blood was also boiling because she walked up to James, putting a hand on his shoulder she turned him to face her.
"James" She spat the name with so much disgust that I flinched. She seemed so peaceful but she was certainly someone no one would want to make angry. "Leave him alone"
"And why would I do that Princess?" As soon as he said 'princess' Beatrice visibly gagged and I was trying to hold back laughter because I knew that if I laughed then I was more than likely to get another black eye. "Everything comes with a price" He smirked even wider at that.
"And what might the price be?" Beatrice asked completely unfazed by the boy that could easily have her in a lot of pain.
"A date. With me." He sounded so smug. The nerve of this kid!
"And he never gets beat up during school again." Beatrice bargained holding out her hand signalling a deal
"Deal." He agreed, shaking Beatrice's hand in agreement to her terms.
"Deal" She agreed
As soon as it was just me and Beatrice alone in the classroom I turned to her, hopeful for answers as to why she just saved my but.
"Beatri-"
"It's Bea" She gave me a warm smile and gestured with her hands for me to continue what I was saying.
"Bea" I started again "I just wanted to thank you, but why did you help me?"
As soon as the words were out my mouth I saw a look of what could only be described as conflict on her face. Like she was debating whether she should tell me why she helped me or not.
"Because." She stated like it would give me all the clarity I needed. News flash: it didn't.
"Because what?" I prompted feeling ever the more confused by this girl.
"Because James is an A-class Jerk who I absolutely hate with every fibre of my being." She concluded
"And that's why you agreed to go on a date with him?" I raised an eyebrow in silent challenge before she sighed and replied.
"You better be headed to your next class. Some of the teachers here are real pains." And not leaving me a second to answer she left me confused and alone searching for my next class.
