Victor returned home late that night, his heart heavy with exhaustion. The moment he crossed the threshold, an eerie silence greeted him—an absence that sent a chill down his spine. The warmth he always associated with their home seemed to have vanished, replaced by an unsettling void. With a growing sense of unease, he made his way to Victoria’s bedroom, fully expecting to see her absorbed in a book or immersed in her work. But the room was empty.

Panic clawed at his chest. His mind raced through a thousand dark possibilities, each one more terrifying than the last. Frantically, he began searching the entire house, his desperation mounting with every empty room. “Victoria?” he called out, his voice cracking with fear. When there was no response, he screamed her name, the sound reverberating through the silent halls. “Victoria!”

Just as he was on the brink of complete despair, he heard the soft creak of a door behind him. Spinning around, he saw Victoria stepping out of the restroom, her expression calm and unaware of the storm raging inside him. Relief crashed over him like a tidal wave, and without thinking, he rushed to her, wrapping her in a tight, trembling embrace. “Thank God,” he whispered, his voice breaking. “I thought I lost you.”

But instead of returning his embrace, Victoria stiffened, pushing him back with a frown. “What’s wrong with you?” she demanded, her tone sharp and unyielding. “Why are you acting like this?”

Victor’s eyes, still wide with the remnants of fear, locked onto hers. “I was scared of losing you,” he admitted, his voice raw and exposed. The vulnerability in his confession was palpable, hanging between them like a fragile thread.

Victoria's expression hardened, her frustration bubbling to the surface. “You’re always scared, Victor,” she retorted, her voice rising. “Always worried about losing control, about losing me. But have you ever thought about how *I* feel? About what *I* need?” Her words were edged with a pain that had been simmering beneath the surface for too long. “Maybe you should stop being so possessive, stop suffocating me, and start trusting me. I can’t breathe with you clinging to me like this!”

Each word struck Victor like a blow, cutting deeper than he thought possible. He hadn’t realized how much his fear had affected her—how much it had hurt her. “Victoria, I’m sorry,” he whispered, his voice cracking as he sank to his knees before her. Tears spilled down his cheeks, unchecked and raw, as the weight of his mistakes bore down on him. “I didn’t mean to hurt you. It’s just… it’s been a rough day, and I—”

His words faltered, the regret choking him as he clung to her legs, his tears soaking into the fabric of her dress. “Please forgive me,” he begged, his voice thick with sorrow. “I can’t lose you. I love you too much.”

Victoria looked down at the man she loved, now broken and desperate at her feet. The sight of him—so vulnerable, so stripped of his usual control—stirred something deep within her. Slowly, the anger that had fueled her outburst began to dissolve, replaced by a tender ache. She knelt beside him, her fingers threading gently through his hair, offering comfort in the way she knew best.

“It’s okay,” she whispered, her voice softening as she leaned her forehead against his. “I’m sorry too. I overreacted.” She sighed, closing her eyes as she felt his pain and her own intertwine. “It’s just… sometimes, everything becomes too much. But I know you love me, and I love you too.”

Victor lifted his gaze to meet hers, his eyes filled with a mix of relief and lingering fear. He cupped her face in his hands, his thumbs brushing away the last of her tears. “Thank you,” he whispered, pulling her close. “I’ll do better. I promise.”

The sincerity in his voice was undeniable, and it hung in the air between them, heavy with the weight of all they’d been through. As they clung to each other, something shifted—a deep, unspoken need rising to the surface, demanding to be acknowledged.
