When I woke up all I heard was my brother running in the house screaming at the top of his lungs.
"Ava where my shit at !". I finally find the strength to come out of my room and give my brother his insulin and a cup of orange juice. I finally say "Where is Nia" as I put the juice away. "She's doing overtime at the hospital, I told her she don't have to work there but she won't listen. He said as he drank the rest of his juice .
"Al when you stop doing what you doing then maybe she will stop working, but your followings pops same footsteps" I said as I look at him.
"Not you too Ava, don't I take care of you? Don't I always make sure you good" he said. "Yea" I said cause I knew this conversation wasn't going anywhere.
"Ok then lemme ' do my thang I got this on lock right now aight" he said as he went in his room.
I had two classes today. I currently attend UCLA as an engineer and civics major. I had 2 semesters left and I would be done with school. Thanks to Alfonso, he purchases me a Honda Civic Coupe so I was able to drive to campus instead of taking the shuttle.
When I arrived on campus, of course, I went to the cafe to grab some coffee and a light breakfast.
"Hey, Ava. Your regular today?" Stephan said to me.
"Look at you knowing. Yes, but today I'll get oat milk because it taste better" I said as I reached for my wallet to pay. Off to class, I go.
5 hours later
I got home and Alphonso and Tyrone were sitting in the living room watching the game.
"Ava, dinner is on the stove. Heat it up, might be cold" he said while hitting his blunt.
Alphonso is a teddy bear and hates when I'm upset at him so he'll do small gestures to make me happy. He made my favorite dish, three-bean chili.
"Al, you didn't have to" I said as I plopped on the couch next to him.
"Yeah yeah, I ain't no bitch. Just want you to smile booge". After I finished eating I sat and watched the game.
As soon as I got up it was a loud thud at the door then 4 men came in with black clothes on and yellow scarfs I knew it was over. First thing I did was try to run but i didn't get far they pinned me down and ran to the back all I heard was. POP POP POP. And then there was silence. The guy on top of me ran to the back and it was another POP. I was scared as shit I ain't know what to do. "Ava get up yo, let's go get me to a hospital !! " he said as he held his stomach, I put some Uggs and ran to his car. We got there and he went to ICU.
*2 HOURS LATER*
It was a tap on my shoulder it was the doctor. "Ava right" he said and I nodded my head. "I'm getting so good with names, but your brother lost a lot of blood so if we can get some more blood for him he might make it but his time is short. He want to see you" he said as he followed him to his room. When I got in there it was so many tubes.
"Ava I need you to be a big girl ok, I need you to talk to Jermaine tell him to give you the key he knows what I'm talking about ok. When you get the key go to the bank and get the box it's going to be a set of directions in there I need you to follow them ok" he said as he was trying to breathe.
"No I'm not leaving you Al i will kill them all! I'm not leaving you" I said through clenched teeth and tears in my eyes.
"Ava listen to me this is a game your not ready, you will see me again I promise you I just need you to trust me and lemme ' handle this. Go get Nia pack all Yall shit, take my car and go see Jermaine ok I love you and do not come back here, or try and call here I will call you. I love you" he said as he reached for me to give him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
"Ok I love you too" I said as I rose to leave.
On the phone
Nia: hello Ava is everything ok ?
Ava: no he told me to get you pack our stuff and go see Jermaine.
Nia: ok I'm on my way
*1 hour later*
All our stuff was pack and we was on our way to Jermaine when we got there the block was empty. I knocked on his door. "Follow me" he said as he went to the basement. "Here please be safe Ava I wish you the best anytime you need anything you have my number ok love you baby girl" he said as he lead them out the house. We drove To Bank and and they showed us the box I open it and held. $1.5 M and a letter.

"Nia I don't know what do" I said through tears. "Look Ava now is not the time to be a bitch, now is the time for you to put on your big girl shoes in walk in them now let's go we don't have all day" she said as they left and drove to the airport.
