Twenty-four hours until Do Yu-mi's death
The blaring siren of an ambulance amplifies with each passing second, echoing through the hospital halls. I pause, setting down the paperwork I am working on. I push myself up from the chair, quickly heading towards the main entrance, following the noise.
Do Yu-mi
The hospital doors swing open, and two paramedics step out, one pushing a gurney containing a young woman, her eyes wide and unfocused. I approach the pair, my brows furrowing as I assess the woman's condition.
"What's the situation?" I ask, noticing the young woman trembling.
"Suspected opioid overdose, unresponsive," the paramedic answers. I lean in, inspecting the young woman closely. Her eyes are dilated, her breathing labored. She looks entirely out of it.
"How long has she been like this?" I ask, my mind already racing with possible treatments. The paramedic shrugs. "Witnesses said they found her slumped against a wall outside a bar about fifteen minutes ago," he replies. My eyes narrow. Fifteen minutes..that was a long time without breathing.
"Get her to the O.R.," I order, firmly. The paramedics wheel the gurney away. I sprint after them, my mind racing. As I hurry through the halls, I give out orders. "Get an IV started, oxygen mask, chest compressions - stat!" I quickly change into my scrubs and scrub my hands clean.
The team of doctors and nurses in the O.R. spring into action. The young woman is quickly moved to the operating table, her body now surrounded by a flurry of activity. I move with steady precision as I prepare the necessary equipment, focusing on reviving the unresponsive patient. The team starts chest compressions. I read the heart monitor, chewing my bottom lip. "It's a V-tach...not good..Administering epinephrine, 5 mg." I inject 5 mg of epinephrine into the patient's system. I monitor her heart rhythm. "V-tach persists. Get the defibrillator ready!"

I exit the operating room, taking off my mask. The patient's condition was stable, and she was transferred to the ICU. I head back to my desk and check the patient records on my computer. I input the patient's condition and save it. "Doctor Kim, have you already done the patient rounds?" I turn to Kim Iseul, my closest friend at the hospital.
"Not yet. Doctor Oh just called me to assist with his surgery. Can you do the patient rounds for today? Pretty please?" She shoots me her best pitiful puppy eyes. I grumble, falling for them.
"Fine, but you owe me.." I get up and grab my clipboard along with the medical history records. "Hey, I heard there's a work dinner tomorrow. Are you going?"
