I waited on the roof of the castle, watching as the Mudwing was put out on the sand. He was fidgeting and looked agitated. Almost scared.
The Nightwing and Seawing were back in their sky prisons, and the Rainwing was on her perch, watching the Mudiwng through slitted eyes.
I watched as everyone filed in, ignoring the introductions.
An Icewing was placed in the arena, Fjord. And then he introduced the Mudwing. Clay. Stupid name. But a Mudwing name all the same.
I trusted my Rainwing to be able to help him should it be needed and flew off to the castle center. Hanging above the large feasting hall, was a large golden cage. Inside was the Sandwing. Well, Sand - Nightwing... Or something.
I glided to the cage, careful of the guards that were positioned in front of the entrance, and landed on a cage bar. The cage rattled slowly, and the Sandwing looked around in shock.
"Hello?"
"Shhhh, darling. I'm here to help...."
"Who are you? Another Rainwing like Glory?"
Ah, so that is what my beautiful Rainwing is called.
"Something like that. Would you like me to get you out of here?"
"Only if you can help my friends too!"
"Yes, yes. That is the plan. Go to the door, I'll unlock it in a second."
Venom didn't work on metal or non-natural objects, so I'd have to pick the lock or find a way to get a key.
I stuck my claw into the keyhole, hoping for that sweat-clicking sound. Nothing.
Shit.
I flew down to the floor, landing as silently as I could, and slithered to the nearest guard.
"Did you hear? The Dragonets were captured,"
"Yep, the Mudwing is fighting in the arena right now. Wish I could see it,"
I pounced on guard number one, he had red-scaled and was larger than me. All it took was a quick thunk of his head on the ground to get him to pass out, I looked at the other guard, an orange female. I slowly let my scale bleed into a black, then flared my fins and bared my fangs. A hissing sound louder than a Skywings echoed throughout the hallway.
"GAH!" The guard dropped the spear she was holding.
"The key, give it to me,"
"Yes... Yes...."
She let the key fall to the floor and kicked it to me. I picked it up and looked back at the guard.
"Thankssss~" and I spun on my lower talons and hit her in the head with my tail. Knocking her out as well.
I turned back to the feasting hall, the Sandwing was staring at me.
"What are you?"
I bared my teeth in a smile and flew up to her cage. "I'll explain everything after we get you and your friends out, yes?"
She nodded.
The key clicked into place and moved the lock easily. I flung the door open and motioned for her to follow me.
I flew out of the palace and shifted my scales to a pale yellow, much like hers.
"Whow,"
"Come on, we'll have to get them out tonight. For now, we'll go get you some food, and figure out a better plan than 'charge in and hope for the best'."
