Nathan's POV.
Life is quite boring, isn't it? I just work and work and work in my office. But at least my life isn't that bad...maybe.
I'm Nathan Woods, a 26-year-old man, living alone in an apartment. I work for an office that serves technical data–or is my department. My parents treated me well, I only have a few friends I adore, my colleagues are alright too. Boss is–well, bossy most of the time–yet he treats us well.
I work at the South side of Maplewoods Grove, this small city is quite known for its beautiful mountains that lay on the North side.
I heard that there's a river on the other side ...I wonder when I can go there...
Maplewoods Grove is also known for another thing...we have a hero and a villain.
They usually fight in the North side and the villain–Silverclaw–always comes out with big machinery that he creates. While the hero–Ms. Fortune–saves the day all of the time.
I've heard rumours that Ms. Fortune is the first successful experiment from some scientists or whatsoever; she has super strength, flight, blah blah blah, the usual Superman stuff, you know?
I was lucky to have the job, just typing away data and reports of the company I work in and enjoying my lonely life... maybe that's why my parents urge me to get a wife...but I'm too lazy to interact.
I got up from my desk and walk over to the small cafeteria in my floor to grab some coffee, there was Mark–my friend–already preparing coffee for the both of us.
"I already guessed you'll be here in a minute." He said, handing me a fresh cup of coffee.
"You know me well, Mark. Don't tell me you have a schedule just to make coffee for me." A chuckle escape my lips as I drink my cup.
The hot and bitter taste of coffee really hit my tongue and my brain to wake up. Maybe I should've added cream first...eh, well, too late.
"Nathan, you know I have some...deal with your parents to help you find a wife..." Mark started, checking his nails to act more sassy.
Oh boy...Mark is quite the gentleman to elders and women, he has black slick hair, broad shoulders, mesmerising eyes and a smile girls would die for. But he insisted on being single like me.
Once after he met my parents, he suddenly started to introduce me to many women to no avail, I've told him many times to not do that but he kept doing it for some 'deal' he got from my parents.
How nice...
"Mark, please don't start on this..." I muttered as I pitched the bridge of my nose, already feeling the headache of the 'wife talk' he does.
"C'mon Nat, you're literally every girl's dream,"
No, I am not...
"You got that nice body, handsome face and the perfect length of hair."
Nuh-uh. I have a slim body but enough for some abs to come out. I may have a great jawline, but my face is 'adorable'–or so what many of my parent's friends say–and I always cut my hair with a medium haircut since I kind of hate having very short hair.
Not much but I'd like to make myself presentable...or am I doing too much?
Mark always say that my eyes is the one that pulls people in and also say that I'm lucky to have brown-golden eyes.
Then why haven't girls dated me, Mark?
I just sigh and shook my head, taking another sip of coffee to try and let his words fall deaf to me.
I guess my hopes were heard as Evelyn–my very energetic colleague–swerved in and nearly tackled Mark to the ground as he yelped from the sudden grab.
"Hey guys! How's the day?" She exclaimed like a happy little puppy seeing their owner.
"We're alright, Eve. Say, do you really need to tackle me each time?" Mark asked, while gently pulling her arms away from his torso.
She stepped away and went beside me, pouting like a child.
Her short brown hair flows smoothly with her movements, her body is what college boys all want with green eyes like a tiger's and a smile that could wipe all sorrows away.
"It's fun! Can I just play around?" Evelyn argued; she's always the fun friend but she gets serious on work.
I wonder how she does that...
I only chuckled as I shook my head once more. The caffeine starts to work on my body as I feel more energetic.
Suddenly, the sound of machinery whirring up echoes outside. I, along with Mark and Eve, looked out the window; greenish light shined.
Oh no...
"Get down!" Mark yelled before tackling me and Eve to the ground as a blast of light blinded us.
I regained my sight and looked out.
Wait...where's the wall?
